Cool

I have been getting between 15.5 and 16.3 on mine but I drive near 80mph. They say if you are closer to 70 and keep RPMs below 2000 you will do better. I have yet to try it because I always seem to be late for work or something. I have 3500 miles and have not noticed an increase due to break in but maybe it is too soon. Search the forums on MPG or mileage and you will get gobs of info.
Don't fall for the mothball thread though. That guy got us all laughing and he disappeared when he couldn't back up his claims.

I took my supercrew in because (I never got above 18 mpg on the road at 70) to have it checked.

They did a road milleage check which sure enough showed that it got 21mpg.

I wonder if jacking up the tires to 40lbs pressure had anything to do with it or driving it at a certain speed helped to.

I don't believe anyone who claims to get anymore than 14 mpg if they're spinning 2100 rpm's with a 5.4, Sorry

Exclamation Just Bought New F-150 SuperCrew

I just bought a new 2WD SuperCrew. Although I only have about 200 miles I don't believe I am getting the gas mileage of 15/19 (city/hwy) I expected. I drive pretty easy. Does the mileage improve as the truck gets broken in, or is that a myth. Can somebody tell me what to expect. Thanks!

Got 2000 miles on my 01 HD. I get 17 to 18 with a mix of city/highway. One tank with 80% highway was just over 18. That's with 3.73 gears in the back and driving around 70, 2100 rpm.

Expect to really enjoy your new Screw.
Expect to get many happy years of great service from it.
Expect an ocasional look or comment of hey nice truck!
Expect to be glad you bought the truck you did!
and expect the cost of filling up to be that typical of a FULL SIZE Vehicle and don't fret over it too much! enjoy your truck

Skully 2001 larait Screw 5.4 tow package 4x4 dark green sunroof 6 disc cd leather captain chairs and
all the goodies . and a color matched ARE lid. :-) about 16 mpg average with 4000 mi on truck

PS I have the regular radiator , and am about to put it to the test driving to MI and back 2,600 miles and plan to bring back my 25' 5000lb travel trailer! IF it overheats then I will go to ford and bitch up a storm (after all I will be in Michigan) and prove to them in fact have sold a truck with a sub standard cooling system! this will include letters to FORD MO CORP.
I really don't think there will be a problem! I will let you all know.

Eugene,

My MPG is close to what NORM! said above. My best was just last week at 17.5; 98% freeway miles when I was hauling loads when moving (around 5 30-mile round trips) I'm 5 miles from work now, so my mileage is now 90% city traffic. I just checked my MPG yesterday and got 14.3, the worst yet. However, I do expect at least 18 on my fishing trip to the High Sierras this summer. I have just turned 6000 miles.

500 miles on truck, 2nd tank of gas, 13-14 mpg average. Keep telling myself to go easy, but it never works. Turn the corner, look around, see no one, give it a little blast, whoops, there goes the good gas mileage for this tank. Maybe next tank I'll go easy.

It's a TRUCK! 15-20 mpg is the best you'll evr do so just enjoy it. You've got the best looking truck out there. So so gas mileage is a small price to pay.

Femseadoo... here in Atlanta you will get run over if you're not running 70 - 80+ on the interstate. I'm convinced folks think the highway signs are the speed limit (I-75, I-85 and try as they do, I-285!)

Norm & Screwking: just thought I would add my 2 cents. I get 13-14mpg on 89oct in my 5.4 4x4,and I have added a tonneau cover, new exhust & air filter kit to assist in fuel conservation. I travel the 95 & 495 area and like to do 70-75mph, slower is standing still and faster,I should just throw money out my moonroof...like screwking I have about 5300mi on my baby and I feel we are past break in.
Thanks, for allowing me to share.

That pic is from four weeks ago, i've put 2200 miles on since then. The reason I drive 81 mph is that it takes only 200 extra rpm's to go from 71 to 81 mph. Once you go any faster the ratio of rpm's to mph drops off dramatically. Example, to go 85 requires another 200 rpm's. So I drive at the at the highest mph using the lowest rpm's. I also drive rt. 95 (or is that the speed limit?) about 60 miles round trip daily. Just filled up and mpg is 13.4. Yes it's a 4x4

Question

ScrewKing if you are a 4x4 that would explain your lower mileage. My worst has been 15.1 my best has been 16.4. I drive my 2 wheel drive XLT down 95 from Seabrook to Beverly and that is my mileage. The math does not require a college degree or anything and my odometer checks out ok on the measured mile in Rowley on Rte. 1. I am also not the only one who has exceeded 14mpg. As I said if you lower your speed and RPMs you will probably do better but overall I am happy with 16mpg on a 5.4 truck. 19 or 20 would be better but that is just a dream.

Edesroches what did they do for a road mileage test to come up with 21 mpg?
