4DOOR,
No offense Brother, but if winning means rolling accross the finish line first in that thing then call me a loser:^)

That is one ugly truck but the 5.3 is a pretty good motor. I have one in my Suburban and honestly, overall it feels more powerful than the 5.4 in my SuperCrew. The 5.4 was a small advantage in low-end but loses out in mid-range and upper end to the 5.3.

Although I hate to admit it, being a Ford tech and all, but I do beleive he is right the 5.3 I've heard runs real well. And why not Chevy has always ran a bit better than Ford

I have to disagree. I just got back from the GM "Truck Show in Motion" where I drove the 5.4 Screw and 5.3 Ugly-lanche one after the other. The 5.3 was an absolute DOG! It basically bogged when floored....I think something was wrong with it, cuz I also drove a Silverado and it had much more power.

In reality, these 2 are very close. Most 5.3 come with a 3.73 rearend whereas most 5.4 have the 3.55, so they are pretty even. I have the 5.4 and 3.73, but have never raced (maybe I'm getting old?).

5.4 in the Screw is tuned for a truck, like it ought to be. Not top end power but low end grunt. That's what I NEED in a truck. If you want to race get a Lightning, if you want a real truck get a Screw or Scab.

I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers, just stating my experience. Since I actually own a 5.4 and 5.3, I drive them back-to-back often in real world driving. I didn't buy either for speed, I already have a Mustang GT and RC51 when I want to go fast. And if I wanted a stump puller, I'd have gotten a V10 or diesel. In my experience as a current owner of both, I give a slight edge to the 5.3 for overall, everyday light truck use. Now, when the 3-valve 5.4 comes out, it should go the other way.

Mark,

Are you sure that you don't mean "every day grocery getting"?

The Chevy guys that I work with are not very happy with their 5.3, they complain about lack of power while towing snowmobiles and small fishing boats. Why should they have to buy a 6 liter for occasional light towing. When I was shopping for a new truck in 1999, I drove the competition and as far as a light truck motor is concerned the 5.4 rules.

My everyday light truck uses of the SCrew and Burb include but are not limited to commuting, towing a small trailor with motorcycles/sleds, multi-state trips, hauling firewood, bark, fertilizer, feed, etc., various hunting/fishing trips including offroad, and hauling family/friends, and getting groceries.

Since I actually own both I have some added insight into this I doubt many here do, especially the biased.

It's an opinion. Doesn't make it right or even logical. One "feels stronger" than the other. Great, thanks.
