Thumbs down My New Screw Buying Experience

Traded in my G.M. for a new Ford SuperCrew last night. During the process they sent me to the Gal that goes over details like extended warranty etc. As she was going through the standard material she got to the service department oil change offer. For a onetime fee and $16.95 per oil change they would change my oil at that price for several years (I forget the timeframe). I told her I wasn’t really interested since I like to change my oil myself (always have and probably always will). Well that started it…she asked me if I was certified by Ford. I told her no. She then told me that my warranty would most likely be void if I changed my own oil. After I told her to pound sand, I finished my buying experience and drove away in my new vehicle. Sure takes the pleasure out of buying a new truck.

If we didn't have to deal with these idiots at the dealership it wouldn't be so bad buying a new truck. They're always trying to sell something we don't need. I got mine through a broker and had no problems, I hope you enjoy your truck as much as I do. Goodluck to you ScrewBigRed.

Hey,
I used to sell Fords and was in the business for 6 years. I was a salesman, sales manager, finance manager and used car manager. There are idiots in every business. Try not to extend the bad taste that she left in your mouth. It is unfortunate that people like myself have to cope with the bad experiences that others have had because of idiots like her. I enjoyed selling something that I really enjoyed. A great Ford product. I had a hard time dealing with the stigma behind the business of selling cars. I am now in the technical world really doing the exact same thing....selling. My life is completely different now. My hat is off to the few people out there that are in the car business that really try to be a normal respectable salesperson....without the salesperson some of those people would be driving around in chevy's or Isuzus or something...no disrespect to the chevy product. I am partial to the Ford truck.

Peace.
and give the next salesperson you deal with a chance.....someone has to do it.

Enjoy your truck.....I am enjoying my (wifes) 2001 Screw lowered 2/4 looks great.

DDDman,
Actually the salesman was fine! Unfortunately they turned me over to the business manager for the final details of the purchase. I don't think she would make it in sales.
Now I'm going to move forward and enjoy my truck. I can't wait to get my bed cover and bed protector on.

Hope your doing well in the technical sales area.

I've had it with Ford dealers for a lifetime!! If I was you I would have walked away from that gal, gone back to your salesperson and told him or her that you were disgusted and threaten to walk out unless they do something to earn your business.

There are idiots in every business, and whenever I run into one I make sure it costs that business something.

Y2K,
I can understand your frustration with the various dealers. I struggle with the opinions people have about the dealers. It is so sad that the car deal has to get so ugly all the time. It is also sad that there are so many bad people in that business. As I said earlier there are idiots in every business, it just seems that there are a disproportionate amount in the car business. I too would have called the finance gal onto the table and questioned her remark about the warranty and voiding it! I may have left the dealership as well. Since I was in the business for a long time and understand it very well, I would've asked to speak to the GM immediately and she would have switched gears quickly.

My advice to all, find a dealership close to you that has a descent rep. and make freinds with the GSM General Sales Manager. Or make freinds with the fleet manager. Also make freinds with he Service Manager. Getting to know these people will make your buying experience a lot better next time. The person in the car business gets beat on so much and called a liar so much that when they find someone that wants to be respectful and freindly they truly will bend over backwards to help you. Just be nice reasonable and offer a small respectable profit. Something everyone can live with.
It is easier for me having been on the other side. Some of the people that I met during that part of my life are the best friends and best people I have come across. All of whom have been called a liar and Cheat etc.

It is such an emotional purchase and it is negotiable....that is the problem.

Cool

When I bought my Screw Last year(has it been a year already?), I studied everything I could find on the subject. When I walked into f&i department, for round two of the purchase, the guy threw everything at me. Knowing what I wanted and did not want, made a huge difference in the process. The guy went through every option, in detail. When he finally finished, I politely said no thanks. He was pissed and started his second attempt. I said nothing, but gave him my "I've given you my answer look". He was not a happy camper, but the fact is you have the power in the purchase process. I believe it's pretty much a game. If you go into it with that attitude, and knowing the rules, it makes it rather fun. I'll probably be going through this again in a couple of years for my wife. I look forward to the next match up. Enjoy your new truck.

Cool

My dealer is in the small town where I work and I did my actual deal right over the phone. It took 10 minutes and 2 phone calls and the deal was done at invoice price to boot. As for a resonable profit, they make money even sold at invoice. Especially, if a dealership orders your truck, they have no overhead and still get a kickback from Ford. They make money regardless. Don't let them tell you any different. I do recommend you get to know someone in the dealership, it always helps.

Hey Guys,

Just got home from picking up my new S'Crew, I did not even go into the F&I office, maybe its because I called my salesman today and verified the total to make the check out for. I have to say, this was the easiest purchase of all the vehicles I have bought(6). The price was on the window, it listed MSRP,Rebate,Discount Final Price.

I had a good experience also with my salesmen, then got to the sales manager and got a big run-around. My best advise is to know everything before you go in. If you have all of the facts and figures, all should go well. I was asked at least 10 times about rust proofing, bedliner, step bars, tonneau. I just gave them a once-and-for-all NO to all of it. Not a problem then. Also there were two deals on financing, $500 cash and 6.9% or 4.9%. They really tried to talk up that cash back, until I pointed out how much more cash I'd end up forking out in the end! HA! But it was all good. Like I said do your homework when going to buy!!!
