Thumbs down Ravin Z55 Drones at 1800 to 2100 RPM!

I just installed the Ravin Z55 SI/SO in the stock position with 3" pipes. I don't know what the deal is with others that say this thing is quiet except for when you step on it. On my 5.4L Supercrew it is LOUD! There is a harmonic resonance from 1800 to 2000 rpm that vibrates through the cab and is so loud it is unbearable. Midas only clamped the system on fortunately so it will be easy toi rip out. I was hoping to get a system that would increase hp, have a nice deep growl when I step on it, and have no cabin resonance. Any suggestions?

SuperCrewzer, I don't think the Flowmaster 50 series would be any better for you...I have the Ravin Z33 in order to have the sounds....If you are looking for quiet look at the Ravin Z77, Gibson SS, or the Flowmaster 70 Series.......just my thoughts

SuperCrewzer,
Sorry to hear you are not happy with the Z55. I just had mine installed last week and I love it. I will agree with you that it gets a little loud in that range (1800-2000), but it was surprising to me how little I stay in that range. Of course I do very little highway travel so I am not having to stay on the gas that much. The only time I really notice it is traveling down the expressway at 75 - 80 with the cruise control on. But then again, that is why I bought the thing - to make some noise. Otherwise why spend the money. My father has a Flowmaster on his Chevrolet that is loud even at idle - don't even think of using a cell phone in his truck!! Everyone has their own opinion. Good luck on your search!!!

Second that on the FM50 Delta being quite. Went from a FM40 that had the drone at 1800rpm range and got very annoying to the wife. Had the FM50 Delta put on and much quiter at high speeds and the same rpm range..drone is gone but sounds good getting on it.

Thanks for the info everyone! I called Ravin engineering and they said the Z55 is known to have harmonic resonance in the 1800 to 2000 rpm range. They recommended I have the Midas dealer call Ravin engineering for possible solutions. The Midas dealer is willing to do that or switch me to another muffler. So far excellent service! I'll let you all know the outcome. The overall sound seems to have mellowed but the drone in the 1800 - 2000 range hasn't. It does not occur when I rev to that rpm in neutral. Ravin thinks it mat be exhaust is not properly isolated and that is what is causing the vibration. I'll have Midas look at it.

Why not try Dynamatting your floor and rear wall as well? You'll probably end up doing this anyway if you upgrade your stereo.
My doors, floor and rear wall are all dampened, and road noise is extremely cut waaaaaay back. I love it.
While I certainly can't say this would solve your problem, it wouldn't hurt at all.
