Post Taking Delivery next Monday need advise

Hey Gang,

DTM here. My truck arrived last Monday. It figures...I'm on the road this week. Taking delivery next Monday. Can't wait! Fell like a kid waiting for christmas.

Funny thing...I said to the salesman..."I'll be there next monday to test drive it"....he says..."Dan...(long pause) you are buying this vehicle aren't you?" Like he's never had anyone test drive a new vehicle before.

I said..."of course, as long as I'm satisfied the truck is good mechanical order".

So...gang...what should I add to my checklist beside the obvious?

you have to tell us what it is===if it has the trailer towing group class III--you should check and see if it has the right radiator. if it is 2001 year it should have the 1.42 inch core not the standard 1.02 core. READ THIS SITE:

It's a black Supercrew 2WD 5.4L GenIII. Fully loaded except for moonroof and entertainment center. Ordered April 2, built May 1, delivered May 14. 6 weeks in all. Not bad. Already purchased Lightning wheels, 2" rear drop shackle, ******* Tonneau.

I thought the radiator issue was resolved by Ford, No?

DANSCREW got real lucky. He got the correct radiator and still upgraded it. The rest of us have the 1.02 and are trying to get the 1.42.
Dan the man - Ford has not done anything about this but some dealers are doing right by their customers. I am bringing mine in for a rear end noise and will be asking for the radiator I paid for, but to be honest I do not tow anything yet and have only 3000 miles on it. The 1.02 may be OK for me but I paid for a Class III towing package so I should get what I paid for right?

Mods planned:
Gibson Single Sweptside, AirRaid, Superchip, Line-X bed liner, Fog/driving lights, Tint, Speed grill.

Question

Hey DanScrew, was that a typo, or did your screw really come with the correct 1.42" radiator?
Could it be that they are now puting in the correct unit?

DTM:
In most instances, the dealer and/or Ford will stand behind mechanical failures and other specification/warrantee type issues. I would pay close attention to several items:

1. Paint (there have been a lot of posts regarding primer showing through, orange peel, and non-matching, incorrect color tailgates, quarters, etc).

2. Scraches and scrapes to the roof - these vehicles, especially 4X4, are much taller than most Ford dealers and transports are accustomed to dealing with (mine needed a small repair on the roof).

3. Radiator - you've probably seen all the hulabuloo about that.

4. Keyless entry - make sure you have it and that it works (XLT - fobs, Lariat keypad).

5. Auto-lock Function (Enable/Disable) Make sure the circuitry has been done correctly, have the dealer go through the Auto-lock, disable sequence. Mine does not disable and I've been locked out several times when warming up the vehicle in winter, hurriedly closing the door and running in to keep warm. I come out 10 minutes later and the truck is running and I can't get in.

6. You're gonna regret not having 4WD in Chicopee right around Christmas Eve.......

Enjoy the new vehicle......

Wow...thanks all for your feedback! This stuff is priceless. My salesman is going to hate me. Nothing worse than an informed consumer.

Thanks Mr. Bill for your Northeast feedback. It's nice to know I have a fellow brotheren who "appreciates" the New England weather like I do...ha, ha, ha. Fortunately I'm moving to So. Cal end of year...just me and my new Supercrew and trailer.

So gang....the day is almost here. I pick it up Monday...any last suggestions?

Dan The Man...Goodluck DMan, you will love it. One more thing you might want to decide before the finance guy blindsides you---Extended Warranty. Just before signing papers, he offered it to me, whopping $1400 for 5 years/75K miles, $50 deductibles per visit. Bottomline, I did buy it but not after haggling for about 10 minutes. I countered him with $675 plus 3 free oil changes each year. He countered with $950 and the oil changes...sold! Saved a bit of moolah (bought an ARE LSII Lid). Also, I got the one that's nationwide, so I can take it to any ford dealer. It was important to me because I do almost 17-18K miles per year.
Hope this helps. This message board really helped me a lot too!

Never been able to deal on the extended warrantee...nice one. Sounds like you got a reasonable deal, I'll try that next time around for sure.
