Air Bag Switch - where is it?

Post Air Bag Switch - where is it?

I have had my screw for about a month. I was paging through the owner's manual to find out that it appears that I am missing my passenger side air bag switch. There is nothing on the panel where there is supposed to be a place to put a key to switch off the air bag. Does anyone else have this switch or did I get screwed? I think I would like this option.

I have a Gen III Lariat with all the goodies. Built in Kansas City in March '01.

Any help out there?

I could be wrong but I belive that the Scabs and the Screws do not come with the airbag cutout switch as the kids are meant to be put in the rear seats. I'm not for sure on this. I am sure someone else will have an absolute answer for you.

The Regular and SuperCabs have the air bag switch, the SuperCrews do not.

klooger,

You were not screwed on your SCrew. The front passenger airbag switch is required for regular and supercabs due to childseats only fitting in the front. On a SCrew, the childseat can fit in the rear so a switch is not required.

You know.... when I found out a couple of months ago that my S'Crew on order wouldn't have the airbag switch, I went to the NHTSA site to check out some stats on child/airbag injuries. My son is eight, and big for his age and I didn't want to always have to stick him in the back seat when it's just him and I in truck. I looked for F-150 child deaths due to an airbag (not including the infants in rear facing child seats). There was only one, and it was a 55 lb. seven year old child that wasn't buckled in the front passenger seat. It was a '97 airbag as well.... an earlier generation, I believe. Apparently, these unrestrained airbag deaths occur when the child gets thrown forward and the airbag hits their head and breaks their necks or jolts their brain. This differs from the rear facing car seat injuries where the car seat gets hit by the airbag forcing it up and back, killing or seriously injuring an infant (there was also only one of these documented for F-150's).

Sure, if you got a kid in a car seat, put them in the back of the S'Crew where there's plenty of room. I could understand if you put children of any age back there in any case. But, if you put an older kid up front in the passenger seat, make sure they're buckled properly with the shoulder belt and the seat is as far back as it will go.

I'll tell you what worries me more though; is having a kid sit in the middle of the front bench. With just a lap belt, they'd jerk forward upon impact and could be hit at bad angles by two airbags. I wish more was known on this scenario, because it's not likely an adult is going to be squeezed in there.
