Talking From an '01 SCab to an '01 SCrew in One Day

I posted this bizarre story in the General Care section under the topic heading of Make Ready Dept Puts on Tire Dressing From Hell, if anyone wants to read it.

That aside, I am happy to now be counted among the SCrew owners here. As much as I loved the SCab the SCrew just takes my breath away. I would not buy anything other than white trucks for the last 12 years, the Bright Red is a refreshing change. Does anyone else get up in the middle of the night to go look at their truck? These trucks are AWESOME!

I picked up my new wheels/tires yesterday, hope to post a pic of the truck this weekend.

Have a friend looking at making the same change. Perhaps you could answer a few questions:
Does the limited or lack of bed space bother you? Is the bed extender really that helpful?
Any other thoughts would be appreciated..

Hey Gang. I have a SuperCrew with the bed extender and have carried many a load since I got it. I've also had the Regular Cab and the Super Cab in the past. Having the bed extender with the SCrew is a good idea, because it extends the bed farther than a regular 6 footer...So you get the best of both worlds, a four door with a full bed.

Question

Rob_NC:
Just curious - why'd you trade in the Screw?

I went from a F150 supercab to a Screw. Since I sometimes carry long loads (8' - 12' lumber / drywall) I purchased a "bed extender" from Harbor Freight for $39.99. If you have the tow package the "extender" slides into your hitch receiver. It's height adjustable and has a couple places to attach straps to secure the load. This takes the weight of long loads off your tailgate. Check it out at harborfreight.com.

Hey BD, if your buddy even thinks he wants a bed extender get it as option for $165 typical actual cost. Double that if you go back to dealer to buy one later. I'm thinking ol' Rob_NC has an old lady that didn't like the screw, what do you think?

Hi BD,

I ordered the SCab that is mentioned in the other Forum. Unfortunately, I did not have that luxury with the SCrew, it does not have the bed extender. There is approximately 1 ft difference in the bed length of the two beds, that extra length is what prompted the SCab choice in the first place but I had never gotten past wanting a Supercrew. I do have 5 x 10 utility trailer that I can put into service if need be, which is somewhat of a hassble, but the bed difference won't be that big a deal. The SuperCrew just stirs my soul!
A sidenote to all this is resale value, I feel the SCrew will take less of a depreciation hit that my Supercab would have.
Hope this helps, I'm sure others here will have valuable input.

Thanks I will pass the info on! They are now considering keeping the F150 SC (for bed space) and instead trading in an Explorer. Did you know that the Expedition has a bit more interior space than the Screw? Interesting. Thanks again

A note on resale value. We traded our Screw last Tuesday nigth with 17k miles on it and got a respectable $23500 for it. We paid just over $26000 for it exactly one year ago. Now that aint too bad. I was so heart broken that I actually kissed its hood before we left the dealership. sniff

maine-s'crew;
Looking at the Screw myself, I can't imagine having one w/out an extender - but doesn't it get old having to haul most everything with the tailgate open? I test drove a SuperCrew - nice - reminded me alot of the Explorer/Expedition - not big enough (interior or bed)for me though! People seem to love 'em tho - great that they make trucks for everyones' needs/likes. Thanks for the feedback!

BD - I didn't want to trade it, beleive me, but it was my wife's and she wanted more interior room. The Expy she got doesn't drive anywhere near as nice as the Screw. I would have taken it but I can't afford 2 $300+ payments. I miss it terribly.

Ah I see! Well, room is why we didn't get the Screw and instead got the F250 Crew! But of course I wouldn't want to have to drive it around town all of the time - it is big, tall and gets 13 mpg afterall! Too bad the Screw didn't work out - I am sure it has found a nice home!
