Post bed extender

Hi,

There was a couple of links posted awhile back that showed a bed extender which fit inside your hitch and was adjustable. It was made out of some square steel and basically increased the capacity of the bed. I have done a few searchs but can't find them.

Does anyone have the links handy. I want to be able to put some long pieces of lumber in my screw and need this to extend the bed capacity.

Thanks,
Sean

Thanks, that was one of them.

There also was one that you could invert and it would be at the same height as the top of the cab instead of the bed, so you could haul a canoe or kayak etc...

Does anyone know the link to this one?

I just got a sale flyer from Northern Tool & Equipment that has the device your are looking to buy (page 56).

It is called Extend-A-Truck II and sells for $99 plus shipping ($10 - $20). Extends the bed 3 1/2 feet or flips up to transport ladders, canoes, etc.. It has a 4 foot wide support and hold up to 350 pounds. It fits a Class III receiver. "Comes apart in seconds and be stored behind truck seat."

Northern's part # is 348040-F733 (Flyer 733).

Unfortunately I couldn't find it on their web site - http://www.Northerntool.com - but you can call them (24/7) at 1-800-533-5545 to order.

I have also seen one of these at my local Cap World truck parts place. But I think it cost more ($150?).

Has anyone seen something which would increase the weight which the tailgate can safely support? I want to throw motorcycles in the back of my SCrew but I'm nervous about resting the rear wheel(s) on the gate.

Don't be too nervous. We hauled a snowmobile on ours numerous times this winter, and they weight about 500lbs. (avg. dirt bike 230lbs.). We had to since our bro-inlaw did not have a trailer and we decided to split travel costs. The longest trip we did with the sled back there was 983 miles (round trip) up to Northern Ontario.
We did put a piece of plywood down to keep the studs from damaging the bed, and this might have helped distribute some of the weight.
good luck.
