How to remove the Radio
I'd like to replace my single CD unit with a CD/Cassette unit.
Thanks to this site, I've found a potential candidate at radiosandmore.com. They have a dual CD/Cassette unit that costs $475 and they told me they will give me $200 for my single CD unit. They told me that the body of the dual unit is a different shape and requires cutting some plastic inside the dash for installation. They claim many others have made this change and are happy.
I know some f150online members have had dealings with radiosandmore and/or radio removal so I'm hoping I can get some answers before moving forward with this change.
My questions are;
1. How do you remove the existing radio?
2. Has anyone else done this modification?
3. If yes, What was the result?
4. If you have purchased a unit from radiosand more, were you happy with them and the replacement unit?
Thanks for your help!!

A large % of members on these forums have done stereo replacements, most if not all prefer the aftermarket results. Do a search in the audio forums for stereo rplacement, you should see a few articles on the subject.
The general procedure to remove the radio is to pop off the surrounding ring that goes around the radio and AC controls. It is clipped in so you just need to wedge a flat screw driver in there gently and pull it off by hand.
Once you expose the radio you will see two holes on either side. The procedure here is to insert rods into the holes to release two side clips that hold the radio in place. There are special tools available from places like Walmart, or you can make some up with wire hangers or use small screwdrivers or nails. It's not as easy as you would expect witout the tools, because both clips have to be depressed at the same time.

Hey So. NH, I replaced my factory cassette radio for the dual media radio from radiosandmore. I'm very happy with it and if you have questions give Bill at radiosandmore a call. He has been very helpful to me. Besides I believe their radios carry a 3 year warranty.

I knew I could count on my SCREW buddies for the information I needed!! This site is the best ever.
I have been in touch with Bill at Radios by email. He just gave the correct part number and told me there is a tool available for $5 that is very helpful for getting the radio out. I live less than 2 miles from a Walmart so I'll check there first.
I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I do like the CD for music. I also like to listen to books on tape and while my library has a few on CD they have 10 times as many on tape.
I tried to buy the unit through a friend who is a Ford mechanic. His price was $450, but no trade for old unit. Radios is offering $475 cost plus $200 trade in.
FedExPilot - Excellent web site!! I'm bookmarking this one for sure. How do you do it - find web sites like this?
Your switch mod is on my to-do list now it's getting warm enough in So. NH to work outside again!
r.e. your salutation BOL - Be Online Later?
Guess I'm good to go soon as get the removal tool or a coat hanger.
Thanks to all for your help!!

A tip for ya, the radio removal tools go into the holes, then you push them both towards the outside of the truck. This pushes in the clips on the radio.
