Largest tire and wheel combo on stock supercrew 4x4
I am interested in what the largest tire and wheel combo would be that could fit on a stock height supercrew 4x4.
I think I have read that people have put on 305/70R16's.
Anyone with expereince please respond and let me know.
I have also been told that you can fit a 33" tire on there and that it will not rub. Then they say that with the RCD 5" lift you can only fit a 33 without fender modification.
Can anyone shed some light on the subject. I would like to lift it but if all you can fit is 33's and you can do that stock what is the point.
If I lift I want at least 35's on there.
Thanks for any info
Paul

You can fit 305/70/16's on a stock Crew with 16x8 rims. I have heard that the same tire on a 10" rim will rub.

I have a 5" RCD suspension on my 2001 Screw and run 315/75R16 BFG AT KO's (35" tires) on 16x8 wheels (stock offset) with some trivial rubbing. I get a slight rub at full compression but its not enough to warrent trimming.
I love the combo and it rides great.

AJV, Thanks for the reply, this is the setup I want.
I really like the RCD and 35's
Do you have a body lift, I am guessing no.
Anyway I don't mind a little rub if it doesn't damamge anything.
What do you think after having it for a while any regrets.
Would a different backspaced wheel help to avoid the rubbing.
Thanks for any info

I have 255/70 stock tires with 16 inch rims, if I go up to 305/70 how many extra inches of ride hieght would I get?? Im guessing about 2 inches but im not sure. I talked to a tire dealer locally and they said the front torson bar can changed to level out the front with the back and then you can fit the 305's other wise you have to go with 300's So if I raise the torson bar and go to 305's for 255's I would have atleast 3 inches increased ride hieght right??? Someone with experience help me out.

Not sure about the ride height... I'm guessing more like 1" additional for the torsion bars and 1" for the tires. I think the stock tires are supposed to be 31" the 305's are 33" so take half of the difference since half the increase is above the wheel, half below!
Also, my 305's did not rub before I torqued the bars. I raised them to get a more leveled look.
Good luck!

AJV,
Where abouts in Falmouth are those photos from? I grew up in that town (my parnets still live there) and the background looks familiar (Mountain Road)?
Good to see another Mainiac with a Screw. I am also destined for 35" tires (although on a separate set of wheels) at some point when I can afford all of it.

No I don't have a body lift.
I have no regrets except I would like to have put the Yokohama Geolander MT (315/75R16) on instead of the BFG's but they were on national backorder at the time. I am now waiting for the MT Radial Claw to be available in a 315/75R16 which I am told is comming soon.
I put RCD suspension on with less than 500mi on the truck. I am now over 3500mi and just had the tires rotated, and balance checked, by the same guy who put the suspension on. While he was doing that he checked for any premature wear. There are no problems at all. In fact my RCD was the first in Maine since then he has installed 6+ more (both Ford & GM) and he loves them. I love it!
A different backspacing might help but as I said the rubbing is so trivial that I don't even think about it.
My next step is next week when I am having the bed, front & rear bumpers, fender flares, nerf bars, and the lower 6" of the rocker pannels sprayed with black Rhino Lining.

The photos are taken in the Woodlands (note the irony with your present location). How did you end up in Texas? How do you like it there?

AJV,
Ended up getting a job with Compaq and there I went. I was living in RI at the time (just like Maine except the water is warmer).
We love Texas! Had enough of the snow (quit skiing long ago), slush, and those 7-10 day drizzle storms! Nice thing about Houston is that when it rains, it generally gets the job done in a couple of hours or so. Yes, there are 2-3 months out of the year that you really want to stay indoors, just like back home. Difference is, I don't have to shovel the heat! And boy, there is a lot of offroad land here.
It is way too ironic I see a picture of a Screw in "The Woodlands" in my home town while living in "The Woodlands" in Texas! I probably wouldn't be driving a truck at all had I not gone out here. Now you will have to pry it out of my dying hands
Chuck
P.S. I will be up there in September for my sister's wedding. I will have to send you an email and perhaps I can see your beast in person!

Sorry... just catching up since I've been gone at a conference.
I love my 305's and haven't touched a thing on the truck to make them fit. They do come pretty close to rubbing when turning and if I get into some rough riding I may rub a bit.
I think it will also depend on the wheel you choose. A 16x8 with a deep offset may also cause it to rub. My local shop let me try one on for size to make sure it wouldn't rub.
