Question Grooves on the roof of Supercrew

Does anyone know why there are the grooves on the roofs of the Supercrews? I have noticed them and was wondering what purpose they serve if any.

The grooves catch water after a rain or heavy dew when you leave your screw outside and assist cleaning your windshield by dumping the water when you brake. Seriously, probably for structural reasons, having such a long cabin. You may have noticed the F250/350 have external ribs.

Yep, they are what are supposed to be rain gutters. Since they are about four inches from the edge if you happen to get snow and open your door without clearing that part off, you get four inches of snow in the cab/seat.

an "arched" surface is structurally stronger than a flat surface, they are there to strengthen the otherwise large flat surface.

It's to dump water in the cab when you open the sunroof after a fresh spring rain. That way you don't miss out on the great outdoors...

"Ruffles have ridges", for strength.

I hate cleaning them though; Ford could have everted instead of inverting them!!!!!!!

This truck was my first auto with a moonroof, and yes, I did get a cab full of water after opening the damn thing following a rain storm. Duh!

Did anyone get the first brochure from Ford for the Supercrew? The nice looking black Crew on the job site - it didn't have ridges. A much cleaner look if you ask me.

I guess the ridgess are standard on all the new Supercrews. I guess in the long run they make sense but it the short term it really makes it difficult to wax the top.

fsusan11, the reason the grooves are there is for structual strength. Without the grooves the flat sheetmetal would be noisey and not as strong
