New SCrew transmission @ 2,100 miles
Wanted to post a little info on a problem I had with my Supercrew tranny. You may have seen my earlier post asking if anyone had experienced a "shudder" around 30 mph while driving in traffic. Just didn't feel right. Took it into the dealer for a check-out and here's my story...
Got a 2WD, 5.4 Lariat, tow package, 2,100 miles. Also have (or had as the case may be) the orange TSB sticker on the transmission requesting the tech to call Ford if there was problems on the unit, not to open the case. Drove with the service tech and he agreed something wasn't right.
Long story short. Got a new (not rebuilt)transmission (from the factory/assembly line) along with a new driveshaft. New driveshaft was also balanced. Ford/dealer picked up my rent car (a POS Dodge Stratus) while the truck was in the shop for service (total of 6 days).
Dealer did a good job of keeping me informed of progress and minimizing my "pain" while I didn't have my truck. No out of pocket $$'s.
I've always felt that the way you can tell what kind of company/person you are dealing with is how they handle problems or issues when they occur. While I am disappointed that there was a problem, the dealer and Ford did the "right thing" in the way they handled my problem. Got the truck back and it drives completely different. No more shudder or vibration. Oh, I don't have the orange sticker on the new transmission...

Even though it is never fun to deal with something like this, at least your tranny had the tsb sticker. With out it you would probably be arguing with your dealer why they are going to install a rebuilt tranny instead of a new one.
Sundog7,
The Orange TSB sticker was on the side of the transmission pan if you looked from the driver's side. If you have one, it's hard to miss. The first time I looked under my truck, it was the only thing I could see....

The sticker is no big deal/nothing to worry about. They're put on new vehicles trannies by Ford for QC purposes. If a new trans from a certain batch of trannies goes bad within a certain timespan, Ford can track it back to when, where, who mfr.'d it to see if it's an individual defect or it affects all the trannies in a mfr.'s production run. If your trans has a sticker with a valid date on it, you automatically get another one. If not, then they repair the one you already have if it can be.
