Went to take delivery on my SCREW today. Truck came in on Saturday. Salesperson says they inspected the truck, found a dirt bubble in the clear coat ahead of the moonroof on top. The dealer says they will flat bed the truck to a body shop to have it repaired. May take a week, they dont know.I told them I dont want it. I dont spend $30K+ on a truck to have it repainted in a body shop before I even get to sit in it! They still want me to take it, I may just wait for the '02 Screws to come out. What a waste, waiting 7 weeks for the truck to be built and to see this! At least the dealer was nice enough to point out the defect.

Sorry to hear about the paint defect.
Why not let them try and fix it and see how it looks? I had a defect on my door sill and had it repaired. Can't tell it was there. I know we want things to be perfect, but what happens when you're dirving home from the dealer and got some trash kicked up on your hood? Life's too short to sweat all the small details. If that's your only problem, it ain't that bad...Sounds like you have a pretty good dealer if he pointed out the defect to you.

I too had a paint defect on the roof. Just aft of the winshield. Looked like a piece of dirt in the base paint. I got frustrated as you did. Met with the body shop manager. He gave me his advise. It made alot of sense. If I had it fixed now, then I would get the Ford standard 3 yr warrenty, however if I wait until the end of the standard 3 yr warrenty period and then get it fixed, then I have another 3 yrs on the repair. I took his advise and will wait until the end of the warrenty period. I can live with this defect. Sometimes if you try to fix a defect you cause more problems. I also found a small run next to the tailgate, right under the plastic bed cap.

I have the exact same paint defect, between the moon roof and windshield on the passanger side.
Interseting ... I have not taken the issue up with the dealer, too busy getting my radiator issue resolved.

The bubble is about 2" right in front of the moonroof,toward the passenger side of the vehicle. The dealer promptly called for a flatbed to take it to a body shop to repair it, it was taken away 2 hours later(dealer wouldn't tell me who was doing the work). I have big problems paying alot of cash for a defective paint job, it dont matter if it is on the roof where no one will notice or not. When I signed the contract 8 weeks ago and gave $1000 deposit, I was buying a NEW vehicle. Now I am paying the same price on a perfect vehicle or one with bad paint? When it came in and was defective, I told the dealer I didn't want it.The dealer nor Ford has offered me anything in return for taking this vehicle with a resprayed roof. Quite frankly, if they think I will take delivery on this scratch and dent truck without an incentive they can kiss my ***. Gee, I feel better........

I had 3 defects in the paint or my truck I took it too them for paint and they did it promptly as a bonus they fixed all the stone chipps and did a great wax job.

My hometown dealership would not do brake work on the 97 explorer so we took it to Revell and they repainted it and did complete brake job under warranty even master cylinder and everything. So please I have bouhgt my last 4 vehicles there. Navigator 2 Superdutys and My baby the Supercrew. Now for the radiator proble and the wind whishler. They will pay for screwing up on my baby!!!

I would not say our Screw had dirt bubbles in the paint as much as nicks and dings. We took it back three times now and each time they never fixed the problems, just made new ones. They even told us Ford told them to wet sand the entire truck for three or four bad spots. Well they got it to the point where buffing and waxing won't remove the scratch's the wet sanding left, so it goes back in June for a complete paint job. I know of four people(my Boss,and good friend,mine and my Mother-in-law who just picked hers up yesterday) and all of you who have bad/poor paint on there $25,000 plus Screws. Plus don't even ask about the paint on my Flareside thats 4 months old. I thought about setting down one night and writing Ford a letter about how disappointed we all are about the bad/poor paint on there new trucks. If you want your name in the letter e-mail it to me. I agree with you, I wouldn't accept it either. Did you have a chance to look over the rest of the truck?

 

Saw a black one on the dealer lot last night with a very bad swirl in the paint on the passenger side front door. The swirl is in the paint and not the clear coat. I can't believe Ford and there quality and attitude. I think I am postponing my purchase until 2002 to see if the new model problems wear off.

Bought at McCarville Ford in Centereach. I didn't see the truck real close after they showed me the defect, as the truck wasn't detailed yet from shipping(still dirty). The dealership has been excellent so far, they have been understanding, no pressure for me to take the truck yet. The truck is in a body shop somewhere getting fixed. I am losing interest really fast in this deal!

Jimmar: I agree with you about Revell Ford in Verona, Ontario. Great people. My '98 and '00 both came from them, and I've got my choice of dealers in the Ottawa area. Chris Hawkins is the sales person I always deal with.

To all you concerned about a little re-paint on a new vehicle, 99 per cent of us never know about the damage in shipment that gets repaired before we take delivery.

I'm glad the dealer is not giving you a hard time. I'm sure they think that if you don't want it, someone else will...
It would make me sick to think my brand new truck has to be repainted *before* I took delivery. I'm supprised that they showed you the defect, good for them. I purchased my truck (99 Supercab Flairside) from Smithtown Ford. My service dept has been great, as well as my original salesman, but he no longer works there. I need to find a new dealer for my next truck (Screw). I had a meeting (for trade in) with one of the other salesmen that turned me off to this place. Would you recommend yours? Northport Ford was a waste of time as well....I'm under the impression that they don't want to sell trucks anymore.

If you're willing to drive you might want to check out Lucas ford in Southold. They specialize in trucks....They have a large allotment so they get them pretty quick....And they give top $$ for truck trades...I've bought two from them and been very happy...If you decide to check it out see "Marty"....He'll take care of you...Good luck..

I would recommend McCarville Ford. It is not their fault, they didn't build it. I feel they are honest and no sales pressure put on me at all. I understand Patchogue Ford is not so good and Burns Ford in Huntington wanted me to pay $1000 over cost plus $1500 in aftermarket accessories because they had to get the truck from a third party company(=no allocation).
