Post Are 17" Rims/Tires work the Upgrade $$ ?

I'm looking at the SuperCrew XLT and am wondering if 17" Rims are worth the money. Looks aside, I'm not doing any offroading, etc. Mostly commuting, trips to lumber yard, some towing. Do the larger rims give a better ride, etc? What are your recommendations?

I have 'em and they just don't matter. In fact you lose a little off the max tow rating, greater diameter I suppose. I would focus on more important options like Tow Package, Limited slip, engine, bed extender, etc., to enhance resale. Get what you want and what you can afford.

It's all in how you want your truck to look. I ordered my XLT 4x4 with 17" 10-Spoke rims. The factory didn't put them on and it was delivered with the default 16" plain wheels/tires.

I finally got the dealer to install the Wheels and Tires I ordered on the truck and I think it made a huge difference in the way the truck looks. See for yourself. These are pics before and after the switch.

Before

After

The ride is a little bumpier with these tires, but traction is much improved over the General Grabber's.

If the truck was going to be lowered or you wanted to improve on traction and handling, I would say do it for sure. If you want it for looks, I would say, its a good idea. If you plan on lifting the truck, I would say NO WAY! Off Road tires of large diameter for 17 inch wheels cost to much in my opinion. Its all in what you like, My wife and I both have "Sport" packages on our trucks and therefor have 17 inch wheels...which we love for the looks.

Thanks all! That's what I thought - I really like the 17" 10-spoke rims, but I don't think its worth the $$$ just for the looks. I've got plenty of other places already asking for my money...
