Reverse Lights
Has anyone added additional reverse light to their truck? I had some on my 96, but the drop hitch was a box style and there was somewhere to mount the lights with out a problem. With my Screw, the hitch is neatly tucked away, and it has a couple of bends in it to help it fit. I can't seem to figure out a way to get a set of lights mounted with out having to drill into the bumper. Any one have any ideas?

Check out this link to pic's of where I put the lights on my Screw. Its not the most elegent solution but it works for now. Much easier backing the big beast up with come decent light.

Next week I am going to cut out exact size holes in the bumper itself and mount them that way. Then I am going to spray the whole bumper with bed liner material. Once completed it should look great.

Are those mounted to the bumper? If so, does it affect the opening of the tailgate?

I mounted mine under the bumper. If you look between the rear wheels and the bumper, there is a good place to mount an "L" bracket (I used a galvanized bracket from the hardware store) coming off the bed supports. Keeps the lights high and protected. Very easy to tie the relay into the trailer wiring (backup and power). used a small piece of flashing to keep the crap kicked up by the rear tires from hitting the backs of the lights. Used a set of small, round projector fog lights. cost $25. Makes an incredible difference backing up at night. I will try and get a digital camera and take some photos this weekend.

We aren't too far from each other. I worked alot of hail claims over in your area from May of last year through this past December.
I would really appreciate seeing some pictures if you can get them. I have an idea of what you are talking about, but I'm not 100% sure. I know how easy my 96 was to do, but it had the straight hitch, and Pilot made a set of lights for the sole purpose of being mounted to the drop hitch. They looked really goo, but they will not work on these new trucks>
Thanks

Yes they are mounted to the bumper and no they have no effect on the operation of the tailgate. It actually works out well in that the height of the lights is the same as the thickness of the tailgate so when the tailgate is in the open position it protects the lights from getting hit.

That is exactly the installation I was talking about. I printed out the thread where he walks you through setp by step what he did. As a finishing touch I am going to spray the whole bumper with bed liner material.

That looks great. If you know the guy, tell him he did an incredible job.
I would love to do this to my truck, but I can't see where it could be done on the Supercrew bumper. It is not as flat as the standard bumper, and the lights wouldn't really match up. Thanks for the idea though!

This is by far the most ambitious, ballsy, and elegant soloution I've seen. I don't know if the 2001 bumper has the same flat surface area to accommodate this installation though.....

Adamski,
Bad weekend. Between kids soccer games and a digital camera that quit working, I didn't get it done....Plan to borrow a different camera from work.
I work downtown Houston, live near 290/Barker Cypress. I would be interested in hearing your exhaust as that is one upgrade I'm thinking about also.
Stay tuned...I'll get it done this week!

We have a near perfect situation here. I had spoken to a fellow memner on the board about his desire to hear my exhaust last week. It just so happens that he work off 290 and Jones. At the same time, my "office" (that I never go to) is off 290 and Hollister. I'll get in touch with him and try to set up a day this week to come out there. Shoot me an email and I send you my numbers. Then you don't have to mess with the digital camera. Let me know adamski96@yahoo.com

What kind of money did you drop in to the lightning tails? I have thought about getting a set of the APC's or something similiar, you know with the clear lenses and the red "spot"lenses underneath. I will have to see if I can find a picture of the lightning tails to look at. Thanks for the suggestion!

Have questions:
From what I've read here, these lights get connected to a wire that turns them on when your tranny is in "R"?
I'm not an electrical expert, but is there some way to have a switch also, so I could turn the lights on when I'm in "Park" at the boat ramp or while camping?
TIA

There are two different ways to do it.
First, leave the truck in reverse with the parking brake on.
And second, run a new set of wires from your fuse box or battery to the lights in the rear. Mount a switch inside the cab and you'll have the ability to turn them off and on at your convenience. (Note: Use the most high powered lights you can. It SERIOUSLY cuts down on tailgaters!)
