Question Tires and other things

I have been reading your posts for a few weeks and I have the following observations and a question.

I have had a ford truck a year since the new models came out in 1997. The first (an XL 4.6 with a Superchip because of the governor) developed a pistons slap at about 7,000 and I lost it at 12,000 after I changed to Mobile 1. The second developed a piston slap at 500 and I finally got the dealer to take the truck back (it had other problems). The third ran well with no noise. The fourth (2001 2x4 Screw Lariat) developed a start up noise at 23,000 after I changed from Motocraft to Mobile 1. I thought it might be lifters because Mobile 1 does not have as much detergent. Traded it anyway. I drive a lot of highway miles and the engine is usually at about 2800 r.p.m. I break them in like I drive them. I just got a Screw, 5.4, 4x4, 3.55, Lariat. It is black. I really like it and I am taking it easy. It has Goodyear Wranglers (265?/70/17) with aluminum wheels. I would like to keep the same height of wheel, but get a wider tire with more rubber on the road. My tire dealer says no other tire in a 17 inch will be both as tall and wider. I am thinking of getting a 18 Lighting wheel. Does anyone have any suggestion for a high performance tire which will be the same size as my 17 inch Wranglers that I can put on an 18 inch wheel?
