Walking Away
SupercrewMark, i was in the same boat as you when i sold me Super Duty...I was stuck in the middle of wanting/getting a Super Crew LAriat 4x4 or the new HD2500 Chevy Crew cab...i ended up with the chevy because i just felt like i was getting more bang for the buck...my chevy was 1K more than the Lariat super Crew i priced...i got LT package, 4x4, 6.5ft bed, everything on thechevy...mileage with the 6.0 is always in the 12.5 city, 14 Highway MPG with 4.10 gears...
My main issue with the Screw was the 5.4L motor...the one i had in my 99 SD was weigh underpowered and actually had to be replaced at 26K...
SuperCrewMark, how would you compare the 5.4 to the 5.3?
the funny thing though is the guys with the 8.1L 496 are claiming almost 11 - 15 with that mosnter...
Another thing i find amusing about the Harley Davidson SuperCrew is that if you had Harley you couldn't even haul it in the bed...

I do know the difference between the 5.4 and the 5.3. Go the www.trucktrend.com. It compares the Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge. The ford had 209 hp at the rear wheels, compared to the chevy's 189 hp at the rear wheels. And the Dodge 360ci finished 2nd at around 192 or so. I drive a Z71 everyday with the 5.3, My 5.4 in my screw is twice as torquey, and there's no comparison that the 5.4 is the better motor. I don't believe these specs are exact but i know there close, look for yourself, even though this was in 99. The chevy's that i've driven still feel the same, even though there up to supposedly 285 hp. 5.4 is for me.
SupercrewMark, 4X4,
I couldn't agree with you more about the figures, i know that the 5.3 are runnin 285. Motor Trend back in 00 dinoed the 5.4 at 280 horsepower, with the 350ft/lbs. torque. But what you guys fail to relize is the low end grunt the 5.4 has. I have both the 5.3 and the 5.4, the 5.4 smokes it everytime without missin a beat. One of my buddies has a Z71 single cab with the 5.3 another has the F-150 5.4 4X4 single cab, the f-150 blows it up everytime. That's proof right there. Maybe the chevy has 285 horsepower, but apparently those horses are fallin down on the job.

s/crew,
It won't be long before I have both a 5.3L and a 5.4L so I should be able to confirm or contradict. It may be as you say a case of different "power bands" with perhaps the Ford making a little less but making is "sooner and/or wider" if you know what I mean?
For example, I perfer/love the power delivery of my 996cc RC51 v-twin which makes stock 121 rwhp (haven't had it on with all the mods yet) to inline 4's 1000cc+ bikes which make more rwhp. Ah, but the sound and power band of the v-twin... Ya gotta love it!

After all is said and done, I now have a new vehicle in the garage. Which one? After driving the Chevy's (1500 and 2500 4x4's), I felt the Chevy's had a better ride than the SCREW. But after you factor in the kids kicking the back of the seat constantly, the SCREW won. At least the kids have quite a bit more room in the back of the SCREW.
I worked out an acceptable deal with the dealer to get the radiator upgraded to the right one. It wasn't free, but at least I'm happy. The only problem I had was the wife decided she didn't want to trade in her car (Lexus LS400) at the last minute. Ended up financing some (3.9%). Should have it paid off fairly quickly though.
Only other bug I found was the truck is about 1 inch too tall. The antenna has to rub going into the garage. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the kids to ride in one of the other cars. They insist on taking the truck everywhere.
Bottom-line - I'm glad to be part of the group.

NetworkGrunt------use a pair of wire cutters and trim dowm the antennae, file off any rough edges . You will not notice any reception difference.
