Gibson Exhaust System
This is addressed to those of you, who have installed the Gibson side swept exhaust,- are you happy with this system? Is it worth it? And finally - where to buy.
Thanks

my only complaint is the (lack of) length of the tip included. from behind the truck at the right angles you can see where its welded and it just looks kind of ugly. eventually i'll probably buy a longer tip and have it re-welded. otherwise, i love it. sounds great when i hit it but it isn't noticeable at speed.
if you want noise, look elsewhere =)

That's funny, us Supercrew owners that are running Gibson Swept Sides up here in Canada must have longer tips than those of you down south....Mine is plenty long, finish is perfect and the results I get are second to none....Hee Hee Hee!!
Alll aside...the Gibson produces some of the best gains without a ton of noise.....I love it!

Thanks guys (Pesos & 2001), for your input. I think thats exactly what I am looking for. Noise was a big factor many moons ago, but not now.
Where should I purchase the system? and at what price? Is there a choice in tips?
Thanks again.

I have one on my 2000 Suburban and love it. Nice low tone, can hear it a bit when you get on it, no drone on the highway. I like it so much, I have one laying in my gargage waiting on the SCrew to come in.

I picked up my Gibson Side Swept from the Gibson plant in Corona, CA. at almost wholesale from Julie Gibson (she gave me a good price because I've used previous vehicles for their test fit designs).
The best price I've seen so far for the aluminized is $239. Just can't remember where but if you browse around on the web, you'll find it. Stainless is also available but it runs at least $100 more.
I've had mine on for about a month now. Installed it in 1 hour. The toughest part was hacksawing the factory pipe as a few other posters have mentioned; there is limited room for saw travel.
Pros:
Fuel efficiency picked up .5 mpg.
Slightly deeper tone when you put your foot in it. Factory claims only 4-5 decibels louder. I vouch for that, but it's only when you put your foot in it where you hear the nice deep sound. You won't notice a difference at idle. And there's no annoying constant rumbling reverberation at higher cruising speeds.
Minuses:
The only thing I don't like with the clamp on self-installation is you can see the clamp that holds the tailpiece if you look hard. I will be going to a muffler shop to have it welded on.
Also, just a little bit of side play when you bump the tip in. It jiggles a tad. Up-n-down movement is nil. Probably could add another support to eliminate the side play, just haven't figured out where to put it.

Yep, forgot to mention that I had mine installed & welded ($50) on the Burb as I too didn't like the claps. Plan to do the same with the SCrew when it gets here.

FALLSCREW,
I haven't heard one on a Ford but it sounds good on my GM and I could tell a difference in performance so I'm very happy with it on that vehicle.
I hadn't thought about the differnce in how a Gibson would sound on a GM vs. Ford but Fords are a bit quiter to start with. Just assumed it was in the muffler but perhaps its in the cats?
Don't know what to think about the performance on the Ford. Anyone else have performance info to share?

Thanks again for the valuable info. It seems to me that I would have to do a little bit more research. Just learned that K & N is producing an exhaust system - does anybody know anything about it? Is'nt the Ravin and Flowmaster much noisier in the cabin?
Thanks
Thanks
Roger,
I'm trying to figure that one out also.
I had a flowmaster on my last truck & it had a nice outside sound & was quiet on the inside.I just don't remember which flowmaster model it was. They have a delta flow technology 40 & 50 series out that are supposed to be quiet in the cab area.Everyone taste is so different that it's alway's kind of a crap shoot.
About the ravin z55 I heard that that is quiet in the cab , But then again everyone's version of quiet is different.
Have you searched both exhaust forum's there is alot if info here & great people too.

Thanks Fallscrew, no I have not vitited that forum, but I will do so immediately. I have been all over the internet without much success. I will keep you informed in the event I come across something interesting.
Hey Roger, last months issue of "Off Road" has an article using the K&N FIPK and their new exhaust system on a 5.3 chevy truck. I think it gained another 19HP and 20lb torque. This system isnt very loud.
You would think they would use a REAL truck for these test!!
My Gibson SS should be here anyday!!
Also "Sport Truck" mag. had a F250 V10 with the same K&N setup, dont recall the specs.

Ok here is my 2 cent's,
I've had the gibson side swept on my screw for 6 month's now.I think it's a good product but if I had to do it again I probably would look at ravin or flowmaster's a little more closly.
1.) I did'nt see or feel any performance or milage gain's.Maybe even some losses on the low end side and if I did gain it was in the midrange area but not enough to brag about.
2.) I was'nt overly impressed with the fit & finish.I was'nt bad but I expected better from what I read on the board about Gibson.
3.) The sound is nice v-8 sound probably pretty comparible to what GM truck's sound like stock.I would like a little throatier sound myself.
All in All not a bad experience but I honestly don't know if I would do it again.

Hi Fallscrew,I have done a lot of reading since our last communication and disgesting all the data,- I am not much smarter!!! As you have said - it is an individual taste - and I am floating between the Gibson Swept Side and Ravins 55. If you have'nt said anything about your disappointment regarding workmenship on the Gibson, thats they way I would go. Do not get me wrong, to express one's opinion is the greatest thing - it's the only way to improve. Sorry, I can't give you anything more.
