Key in the Ignition Chime...can it be disconnected.
Does anyone here know how to disconnect the Chime that goes on when the key is inserted in the ignition ? It appears to be located inside the fuse box. I would like to be able to have my door open and play the CD player while i'm cleaning and tinkering with my SCrew. The dinging is very irritating.
Yes it is possible. The easiest way, without harming any wires etc, is to remove the steering column shroud, and the ignition switch. There is a black wire going to the swt. housing, remove that from the housing. You will want to tape it up, so that it doesn't ground out on anything in the column. When it grounds, that is what makes it ding.
Attitude,
How do you get the ignition switch out? I believe you need to remove it before the top piece of shrouding can be taken off.
Info would be appreciated, I also dislike the door chime and wasn't able to locate the chime itself.

I posted this fix a month or so ago. You do not need to remove the ignition switch. Just lossen the bottom portion of the steering wheel shroud, cut the proper wire. The wiring code is in my previous post. Do a site search "door chime"

This may sound a little 'simple', but when I want to have the door open and the radio on (like while I'm cleaning the truck), I turn the key to the "on" position instead of backwards to the "acc" position. Be sure to turn the heater/air button to "off" so the fan doesn't run the battery down. It works great and you don't have to modify the truck if your only reason to do is to listen to tunes with the door open...
