Question Skidplates

Can someone tell me exactly where the skid plates should be located. I believe there's supposed to be three. Shouldn't one be under the transmission?

I've got to check. I looked under it when I got the truck and it seemed like there was something missing towards the front. I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. I'll let you know what I find.
Also, do I even need to mention it wrong radiator.
Thanks for the info.

1)under the front (just behind the bumper) extending back to the front crossmember under the the engine.

2)under the transfer case, extending from side to side.

3)under the entire fuel tank, cradle type.

All the based on my '00 F150 regular cab....

Question

I wonder the fuel tank skid and front skid plate would fit on my 2000 f-150 2WD?

The fuel tank plate would probably work, but the front plate is different in I remember correctly. I looked into that w/ my '99 2wd. Hope this helps, Doc

azwebguy,

Skidplates are metal sheets protecting vital areas under your vehicle. If you do any off-roading, you will be kicking up or bouncing on rocks, stumps and/or other kind of debris. The plates will protect the areas so that you will not experience any type of punctures or damage to your fuel tank, crossmember, etc.... Of course they are not full proof, but it's better than having no plates at all.

I have skid plates on my front crossmember, fuel tank, and transfer case that came with my ORP. After crawling under my SCrew, the plates that I have looks like it would provide adequate protection for all vital areas including the transmission unless I do some baja style off roading.

Chucks right, there should be three. My truck came with only two. One day I was under our Ford 4x4 at work and noticed it had three. I was missing the front plate just behind the front bumper. Dealer ordered me a new one and shipped it to my home. Two minutes to install.

Thanks Doc, we meet again. Does anyone know if the skid plates are sold seperatly or in sets? Also how much. I guess I could go to the salvage yard and look. That tank just looks venerable down there exposed and all. I don't plan on tearing it up but I have been known to take some questionable 2WD roads. Didn't realize it until I was in too deep!
