Post Antenna

I am looking at a SuperCrew Lariat and the Antenna hits my garage when I pull in. The dealer does not seem to keen on helping me swap it out (These trucks sell themselves).

My questions is, How do I swap it out with a shorter one? Can I just screw it on and keep the same reception?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I think probably everyone who owns a S'Crew and has a garage hits the antenna on the opening on the way (unless you park in an airplane hangar). Mine only hits the top 3-4 inches of the antenna so I didn't worry about it. A figured as long as I don't tear in or out of the garage, I won't have a problem, and since it is a tight fit for the S'Crew to begin with, you don't have to worry about me tearing in and out of the garage. I take it nice and easy!

I know I didn't answer your question, but if it is only hitting the top little bit of the antenna and only on the way in and out of the garage, I wouldn't worry about it.

Question

Thanks...But the Antenna just whips like a mother and I'm afraid I would break it. I'd just as soon replace it.

Any others with info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Joe

I bought one of the short flexible antennas from Pep Boys (~ 1 ft long). It came with a set of threaded inserts that allow it to mounted on a variety of bases. One of the inserts worked perfectly with the SuperCrew base. I haven't noticed any degredation in reception...but then again, I live in the city.

You could clip a few inches of the antenna,
put the little black tip back on.
Radio works fine & antenna looks fine.

If you do a search on 'Antenna' you will
find a detailed description on cutting the antenna. I used that and my radio works fine.

CPAFAY posted this ~ it worked for me.

For the antenna problem, I pulled off the black ball on top with pliers, clipped of a couple of inches with side cutters, filed, stuck the ball back on, and touched up with some black spray paint. Good as new.

I had the same problem with my antenna when I got my truck lifted the standard antenna is 32 inches. I went to the local truck store and got an 18 inch antenna for around $10. To install it all you need to do is use a wrench and unscrew the factory antenna. Be sure to wrap a towel or something soft around the wrench so you don't scratch it. Just repeat the process when you put the new antenna on. It takes all of about 2 minutes and it has not affected my reception.
