Post Westin Step Bars

For those who have Westin Chrome Step Bar mounted on your SuperCrew. Do the flex under weight or do they feel ridgid?

I did not buy the stock running boards because they seems too flexible to me.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Goodstone...I have Black Westin's on mine. I weigh about 240 and they don't flex at all. They are pretty good but I think they should stick out about another inch. I have to watch were I put my foot because they are a little close to the cab. If I was to buy nerf bars again I think I might look a little longer. Not to say I wouldn't still end up with the Westin's but I would check out more options. This time I went with the Westin's without looking at anything else. My .02

Thumbs up

Goodstone,

I love my Westin in chrome. No flexing at all, a really solid mount, and easy to install. I like the way they fit the truck and would not want them to stick out much further.

I have them also, mounting is great, looks great, but they do flex a tiny bit, nothing bothersome, but a little. Certainly would not change my high recommendation of them.
And no, at 6'2" 187lbs, I am not over weight or out of shape.

Question

Has anyone heard of Nerf Bars made by Wildcat Flash. I saw a set of them on a web site www.quality-s.com and was wondering if they were worth trying. Westin is obviously the premier name in Nerf-Bars, but for the price of $145.00 they sure do look a lot like the Westin's, just don't know about the quality.

NO flex what so ever with mine, and I'm a big boy (240 or so). The way these things are mounted, they are very solid and can handle the weight well. I have a small farm, and on a fairly regular basis I use daily hired hands. They got hot and sweaty and I don't want them in the truck, so the windows go down and they hang on to the handles and stand on the bars. I have never seen any flex or bending associated with the bars, and I have had as many as three guys on one side at a time!

LouScrew--
Do a search, there was an earlier post that someone had the same problem with thebars not coming out far enough. His solution had something to do with longer bolts and a hockey puck? or some other small round disk, which allowed the bars to extend out a little further. The only problem I could see is that the bars might get alot more flex in them because they would only be as strong as the material used to space the bars. I have thought about doing the same thing, except trying some sort of steel pipe tubing or something that's the same diameter as the bars. I think this would support the weight alot better, and the bars would still be as strong as they were before.

I would agree, the bars don't really stick out far enough! Two reasons - it's hard to get a good foot hold and they don't protect from "door dingers' as well.

Good bars though. They have held up well the short time I have had them and are pretty sturdy.

Thanks for the tip adamski. I am going to look into putting in some kind of "spacer" to extend the bars a bit further. Right now I
mainly have the bars for my wife and kid. My wife does not seem to have a problem getting in but she has to kind of watch her footing when she gets out. I am sure this kind of extension would really help her.

Thanks, for sharing your thoughts on the step bars. Since I plan on adding the bars for my wife's use, I am concerned that they will not stick out far enough for her to safely use. I have been noticing running board lately on explorers and other trucks, and they always seem to be covered in road dirt.

Do other brands stick out further than the Westins? Any other idea's out there.

Thanks
