Question First oil change?

I've got 60 miles on my screw so far should I change the oil yet?...just kidding

When did some of change your oil and filter the first time on yours? I was thinking 1000 for the first change and then go every 3000-4000 miles inbetween.

And while I'm at it, do any of you have pics of your trucks with Westin Black nerf bars? How much did you pay? Installation easy? Where did you get (online)?

Cool

Only pic I have on-line right now. I bought them at a 4x4 shop and installed them in about 20 minutes. Cake.

I changed my oil at 500 and installed 5w-30 Mobil 1 and a new filter. YMMV.

Thumbs up

I changed at 1800 and went with dealer oil and filter (Motocraft)

I put stainless steel nerf bars becasue they won't peel like the chrome or black ones

Angry

Kinda on the same note...

When i change my oil for the first time, my God if I didn't kill myself trying to get the that frickin' oil filer off. Not only is it in a "hard to get to place", but I went through 3 different oil wrenches and none seemed to be better than the other. Do

Anyone suggest a specific oil-wrench that works well for them on the 5.4L?

Oh...by the way, yes I was turning the filer the right way.

I just placed an order for this filter wrench. It should fit on nice and it bolts to the filter so I won't have to search in the garage for hours to find it.Automotive Tool

I changed the oil around 2000 miles. I'll change it again around 5000 and then every 5000. I used 5W-30 synthetic.
As far as the filter, I didn't have much of a problem with it. I used a "regular" strap type filter wrench, reaching up from the front of the truck. The filter did dent in, but the wrench held, and the filter turned off. I like the drain gutter under the filter, on the axle, it's a nice touch.

I changed my oil at 1500 miles, just because.
I have westins, very easy install, with 17" wheels you don't need a jack!
I got them from ustrucks (something like that ) online for $210 delivered.
