Post Nerf Bars, Running Boards, or Lower (4 x 2)

I have a black 4 x 2 with a Lightning front end that I have been debating for almost a year now on whether to put on nerf bars, running boards or to lower the truck a little. Here are my thoughts ...
1. Nerf bars look great on a 4 x 4 but sometimes don't always look so good on a 4 x 2.
2. Running boards tend to show their age.
3. Lowering looks great but I am concerned about the ride and resell value.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,
Tim

I know how you feel. I have been trying to decide for some time whether to put bigger tires on my Crew(because the truck is bigger) or stay with what I have(275/60/17). I think what I have decided to do is to lower the rear two inches to even it out and put some 18's on it with 285/60/18 tires. I don't want to lower it anymore than that because I use my truck daily. I think your truck looks pretty sharp. I probably wouldn't do either of what you're suggesting. If I were to do something, I may lower it. Nerf bars wouldn't look bad either as long as they were tucked under the truck pretty tight(like Harley edition F150's). In fact I don't know who makes them but I say some nerf bars that were black with the chrome steps on a Crew. It looked pretty good.

McCoyDalTx,

I think the total came around $800.00 for the bumper cover, lights, billet grills, paint, and installation.

I am considering only lowering the back by 2 inches and would leave the front alone.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim, Ive done a little of both.. have the Ford "nerf" bars and the rear was lowered 2" to give a more even look. If I ever get around to it im going to lower the back another 2 and the front 2.

Cool

one50npump
Like your SCrew, how is the ride after the 2" lowering ?
I like to lower mine 2" front, 3" back, but I am afraid that the ride might get too harsh ?
Also what did you use to lower it, did you do it your self, was it difficult ?

no difference in the ride that I can tell. Its just longer shackles on the back of the leaf springs. did it myself in about an hour.

I've got a lower Roush Stage 1 package, and it's lowered about 3". It rides AWESOME!! It corners flat, it's tight riding, but it's not harsh. I would recommend lowering if you want a more athletic ride and handling, but if all your looking for is a easier entry/exit, go with nerf bars. I had them on an older vehicle, and they worked great. My wife liked them.

I had 2" BellTech lowering shackels installed last week. Truck looks good. But now I have noticed a vibration especially around 60 mph.

Is the cause due to the pinion angle problem?

Thanks,
Tim
