New SuperCrew owner has question.
Hi everyone, just bought a new 2001 SuperCrew Lariat 2x4. Love the truck, studied alot of information, including this site before buying. Gained great knowledge by reading your discussions. My question is , after I brought the truck home, on a bright sunny day, while washing I noticed the truck has had body panel repair to the left side of the box. I see paint overspray, swirls in the paint and signs of polishing products. You can also see a ridge were masking tape was applied to shield off a section. I am upset by this discovery, since I was supposed to be buying a brand new truck. The dealer did not mention the fact the truck had repairs made to it. The truck had only 5 miles when I picked it up. What can I do! Any advice!
It is all too common for a "NEW" truck to have had damage in transit between the factory and the dealer's lot. They aren't required to tell you about it unless it involves a large number of body panels in which case they have to sell it as a used car. The dealer probably didn't know about it anyway.
Your best option is to have the repair work redone to your satisfaction by the dealership that you bought the vehicle from. These repairs should be covered under your factory warranty. Chances are the repairs were made before the truck arrived at the dealership. I sold cars years ago and my dealership's body shop specialized in repairs to cars that were damaged at the Port of Wilmington. It kept them very busy.
If your dealer refuses to repair it to your satisfaction, request that you be able to speak with the Ford factory representative that works your dealer's territory.
Good luck!

I also had some "delivery" damage! A golf ball size dent on the cab. I was equally as upset. I didn't notice until after I took delivery. I beleive they would have fixed it without my knowledge had they noticed it.
The dealer fixed it okay. I've seen better. If you look close you can see it has been repainted. Short of asking for a new truck, which in my case was not practical, I'll live with it.
The driver door also has a flat spot in the curve next to the door handle. They offered to fix it but it isn't that noticeable and I really don't want them repainting anything else on the truck.
Bottom line is the Screw is perfect for my family and I, and it is a blast to drive! Have fun with yours.

Join the group. When We bought out Screw We noticed some dings in the driver fender. We showed our salesperson and was told to bring it back to get it fixed. Well three trips to the bodyshop and still looks like crap. The first trip they wet sanded the whole truck. Bring it back in two weeks and we will detail it. Yeah right. Still has the scratch marks in the paint from the sand paper all over the whole truck.Going to take it back and tell them to fix it right or keep your fu*king truck.

Love the supercrew!!!!! HATE the paint!!!! My truck has been buffed on, painted on, and is not perfect yet!!!! Ford needs to learn how to paint. Truck will be back at dealer paint shop SOON, you can see grey primer in the paint on a sunny day! THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!
Goochy:
Maybe the dealer should learn how to paint, did your SuperCrew come in with a bad paint job?

Mine came in with some trash in paint in tailgate, small indentation in paint near gas cap door and light spray in deep water channels on roof. All were fixed by dealer under warranty. Even got new F150 loaner for week while work being done. Keep after 'em, be picky, you can't lose.

I picked up my Screw back in October, and it had just the tiniest little spot with no paint and a couple tiny scratches...the dealer had no problem taking care of it and getting it repaired. Did a pretty good job, and the only 'imperfection' I can see is a vertical line of the clear coat I imagine, at the corner of the box, above the tailight...I can live with that.

Me too! I had heard about their body shop so when they said they would fix it I asked if I could choose the shop. They didn't like that idea.
Anyway, after a week at their shop I get the truck back with overspray, some knarly scratches and tape marks. Not exactly what I would say a quality job. I know! I know! I should have made them fix it but you know what they say fix one thing break two others. I will live with it.
My buddy took his F150 in for some major repairs after an accident. The panel they installed didn't even line up. What a joke. He on the other hand will not take no for an answer. It is in the shop now for the third time.
Keep after 'em. Good luck!

kkirt1,
none of us should take no for an answer. They were picky when looking at your trade in, so we should be picky when buying our(their) trucks. Everybody remember that we are paying good money for their product and should not settle for anything less then perfect. One of my older brothers is in the body and paint business and worked at the old Sonny Hill downtown. They had a sign hanging in the body shop that read "If you can't find time to do it right the first time, When will you find time to do it again". We should all take our trucks back and have them fixed right.

Rivers, yes truck had flaws in paint from day one, but it was late the day I picked it up from dealer, and I was to excited. Found flaws after I washed it. Truck is almost perfect now, but tailgate has to painted again. Dealer buffed to hard and you can see grey primer on sunny day.
I'm not posting this to start any arguments pro or con about having paint/body work done on a new vehicle, but just to give you all a personal opinion. (Yes, I do know opinions are like butts, everybody has one!)
I got out of the business about two years ago, but I have 22 years of body shop experience 11 of which was in my own shop. I made a good living those last 11 yrs. doing mainly new-car warranty work for a local Dodge dealer.
I agree with most of you that if there is any major damage (dents, deeply scratched paint, etc.) it should be fixed. But when it comes to fixing minor things (a speck of dust in the paint, etc.) you should know that although a very small area can be "spot" painted, with today's base/clear coat systems, the entire panel needs to be clear coated which sometimes makes the whole panel look a different shade than adjacent panels. That is just one of a multitude of repair problems that can turn up, even in the very best of shops around the country.
Sorry for the long winded post - I just wanted to make you all aware that sometimes
"the cure is worse than the original problem"

I think the real cure is for the factory to do a better job of painting in the first place. I remember when the plant where these trucks are built talked about spending $30 millon dollars or something like that redoing the paint section. It really shows.
