Question gen III and leather ?

I looked at a gen III SCrew with the cloth bench seat in the front. While comfortable the drivers seat is just to narrow for me. Does anyone know if the gen III leather bench is like the cloth version?

Also, does anyone know if the gen III leather captains chairs are similar/different than the bench style?

I looked at what I think is a gen I leather captains chair and they are a nice size and not narrow like the seats in the gen III bench.

None of the dealers near me have a SCrew with the lariat package...any help appreciated, thanx

Bill, I test drove what I think was a gen III Lariet that had leather captains chairs. The rear seats had head rest and the front seat was more squared off at the top. The front seat bottoms were very narrow and the edge of the seat (where your legs rest) were angled upwards. This seat was very uncomfortable to me as it caused my legs to be pushed towards each other. I did not drive one with a cloth seat but I bet it is the same one. I had planned on ordering a truck but they said it would have seats like that so I took one with a bench seat. I don't know what gen. it is, but the seat was much more comfortable to me.

I have GenIII leather captain's chairs. Very narrow. The sides give over time, but I'm not a very big man, so anybody over 200lbs might find them very narrow even after break in.

LongTime,

Thanx for the info...that's what I was looking for. I'm about 220lbs so the size of the seats does matter to me. The reason I'm looking at a SCrew is because I need a larger vehicle and it fits for what I do. I'm surprised that Ford would go with a narrower seat in a larger vehicle...doesn't make sense. A friend has a 2000 SCrew with the leather captains and they are very nice...they don't have the high sides (I think they call them bolsters) like the new ones.

Skinny,

You must have gotten a pre gen III cloth bench seat 'cause the one I drove was narrow
and my legs were pushed towards each other just like you describe. Does yours have the rear headrests? If it does perhaps you got the gen II and the front seat is the difference between the gen II and gen III.

I'm not really sure what exactly all the differences are between the different gens (I II III) but there certainly is with the seats.

For what is worth, I'm quite small and slim and I have a generation II Lariat with Bench seats with only 150 miles on the truck. I would be willing to trade my Lariat Gen II seats for Gen III seats. If anyone is interested please let me know at larry_vandemeer@hotmail.com
