Question 2000 - 01 Door Cracks?

Do the trucks built in late 00 have the door crack problem, requiring the preventative fix?

i believe the problem was occuring on the extended cabs, the Super Crew has the additional pillar and the doors are hung differently than the ex cab, it is not experiancing any of the cracking comcerns of the other wanna be 4 door 150s...the cracking problems reported have been spotty. all extended cab owners are not experiancing cracking.

Holy cow nickG! Where did you get that info?

The door crack problem occurs in '97, '98, and maybe some '99 trucks. Almost all of those early trucks (reg + ext cab) have the 'crack' problem. A lot of people may not know where to look, but it is there. EVERY 97 I have looked at has this problem.

The problem is due to a bad door/window design. The cracks occur at the curved lower-back corner of the window piller. Supercrews have a different door design (like the expedition), and therefore will not have the cracking problem. The Screw's additional pillar and the method of how the door is hung is not a factor.

sorry for the lack of explaination i hope this helps !!!! this is an in depth acticle on the cracks which i have gotten most of my input..

What cracks? In early 1999 the Ford Motor Company issued Special Service Message #12071 to it’s dealerships. This message dealt with cracks appearing in the sheetmetal of F150 and F250LD doors. The message reads:

Some 1997-1998 F-150/250 LD (Light Duty) vehicles may exhibit cracks in the door sheet metal at the lower rear of the belt molding. Engineering is investigating this concern. To address the customer concerns of immediate repair, the recommended action is to replace the door assembly. At the end of the 3rd quarter 1999, a new service procedure will be available to address this concern. This new procedure will utilize a reinforcement plate and structural adhesive that will avoid major disassembly of the door. This will be updated when the procedure is finalized.

Am I the only one? Much to the dismay of many light-duty F-Series trucks, it seems to affect many. In preparing to write this I received over 75 reports of cracked doors from F150online members in only 48 hours. Every F150 that I’ve personally looked at had the cracks with the exception of my own and new unlicensed trucks. I know it’s only a matter of time before they appear on my own.

Where are the cracks?

What can I do if I have the door cracks? A visit to your local Ford dealer would be the best place to start. Another option is to call Ford Motor Company’s Customer Service at 1-800-392-3673. Or you could report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA
