Question Ride of offroad pkg vs std 4x4

Does anyone know how the ride of a Screw equiped with the offroad package compares to the ride of a stock 4x4 Screw? I would assume that it would be stiffer with the high density shocks. But HOW MUCH different? I ordered a screw with the offroad package w/o telling my wife. Hopefully, she won't notice the difference too much.

hi sparqy,

i drove an offroad 4x4 the other day, a few days after a regular 4x4. feel was a little stiffer, nothing too noticeable... still rides quiet and smooth. the 2nd truck was a gen III with the sweet leather benches and headrests. drooooool.

Thanks Pesos,

That's good to hear because the one that I ordered sounds like the second one that you drove.

Do you have any stats as to the height of the offroad package. Does it add height to the 4x4 option? The dealer wasn't sure. They told me that the height difference was about 3", but they couldn't remember whether or not that was between the standard vs 4x4 or the 4x4 vs offroad.

The reason that I ask is because of the rafters in my garage. The specs for the screw state that the height is 76.9" for the 4x4. I had 76" clearance in my rafters. I rebuilt them to 82" clearance. I couldn't go much higher and still have rafters. Hopefully, this will be plenty sufficient.

From what I been researching I thought the H.D. shocks came with the tow group and/or Off Road group. So the only difference the Off Road is giving is rims and skid plates if you get the tow. Maybe the extra weigh of the skid plates or the tires are giving you a different stiffer ride.

sparqy2000: Please post pics of the color combo, I havent even thought of that one!!

98XLT,

DBader has posted a picture of his dark highland green/arizona beige truck in the first page of the "screw photos wanted !" thread. Granted he has arizona beige vs clearcoat silver metallic on the base, but colors look very similar in a picture. At least this will give you a good idea. I don't actually have my truck yet. It is supposed to be in next week.

I only have about 700 miles on my SUPERCREW but it rides great. I drove the 2X4 and the 4X4 before I bought. Honestly, I don't remember much of a difference..

You won't be dissapointed with the OFF-ROAD pack.
