Question

I recently ordered a SCrew, but don't yet have it. I have also been looking at roll-top tonneaus for when I DO receive it. I was considering a Pace-Edwards (http://www.pace-edwards.com/rolltop.asp), but live in an area in which we receive alot of snow and am concerned about ice getting jammed in the tracks. Does anyone have any experience with this roll-top? Thanks.

The Pace/Edwards roll top looks to be perfect for those of us wanting security but keeping the flexability of the open truck bed. My friend has one on his Dodge. It's the one i'm going with. I don't know about the ice problem. I called the company they said they will be available for the SCrew next month.

I've got a Retrax roll top cover on my SCrew. So far it's been great with snow on it, doesn't freeze up. It worked great the other weekend when I went skiing, I locked my skis and gear in the bed. The cover took a little over an hour to install it by myself. It gives my truck a great look with the glossy fininsh. I dont have any pictures, but am working on it. They have a few pictures on their website www.rolltopcover.com

Question

Any new insights into roll-top covers? I am currently looking into getting one. Particulary concerned about it being watertight, working w/ bed extender, ease of installation, & security. Any advice appreciated.

It looks like the Pace-Edwards model DOES require some drilling (I think I read it in the downloadable installation manual). However, the Retrax that ryanscus mentioned does not. I think it is all clamp-on. I called about the pricing for the retrax. I was quoted $949.00 by Tim Mulvaney in sales. They said they would throw in the lock for free. Looks like a better cover, but is it worth the $350 difference over the Pace-Edwards?

Thumbs down

I looked at a Pace-Edwards yesterday, installed price at $689 + tax. Everything looked and sounded good until I asked about it being water tight..... then the muttering started. The water off the top flows to the roll up box (canister). It then drains out the bottom through drain tubes. I cut him off right there, as I did not want to even think about where those drain tubes were going.

That's when I decided to go order another ARE LSII. I had one one my last truck for over 3 years and had absolutely no trouble with leaks. For the few times I need the bed.....well I can remove the ARE or hook up to the trailer.

Everyone has to make their on decision, Good luck on yours!

I have a friend with a Pace Edwards on a 98 Superduty SB. When he showed it to me one day at work he had a hard time getting the lock to work. Told me he'd had to keep using WD40 on the lock to make it work properly. There is no cover on the lock his model but I think they offer one now. He told me he had a "some" water get in but only during torrential downpour. Dealer was going to fix the problem. I'll check with him to see if it got fixed.

I just finished installing the Pace-Edwards on my SuperCrew tonight. It was one of the first ones sent out and there were some problems. The clamp bolts on the cannister were too short. The seal strip on the lid was too long and jammed in the tracks until I cut it off. There was interference between some pop rivets and the side rail clamps. The instructions had black and white thumbnail photos which were not clear enough to be useful. The seal strip on the front of the cannister cover was too thin. I haven't yet figured out how to install one of the braces at the rear end of the side strips. I think the end result is going to be OK, but it sure took too long and had too many errors in it for me. Right now, tonight, I am not too happy with Pace-Edwards. People that install these every day probably would be happier than I am.
