Steering Wheel Vibration
Hope I can get some help.
Starting off when I reach 40 mph the steering
wheel vibrates, but if you let off on the gas it stops. Then back on the gas it come back then when it goes into overdrive it's
gone. Wheels been balance and aligned no wear
on the tires. Dec.31 just came in from a road test and found that the vibration is at
1400-1500 rpm in any gear as long as you are on the gas, but let up and it goes alway.
Thanks for any help

The problem with the vibration is from the trans staying in high gear or overdrive and not down shifting. If you watch your tach you can see that it does not down shift till you apply 3/4 throttle and then the vibration stops. I am not sure if this is a problem yet but it is definatly annoying. I would like to here if anyone else is having the same problem. Also, I noticed on my 2001 SCREW it has a sticker on the trans unit indicating a 1800 number that is now disconnected and a TSB#0019 "Please call before servicing"
2001Bolt,
My problem is the vibration is on the up-shift at 1400-1500 rpm. Went by my Dealer this morning and they told me that it's in
the Exhaust System. They know about it, but
hadn't figured out how to cure it yet.

Jim, I've got the same problem. Steering wheel vibration starts about 35mph. I've taken mine in to the dealer 3 times now, it'll be going back again. This is making me crazy. It continues above 35mph and when I ease off the gas it stops. First time in the dealer balanced the tires and said it was fixed. Second time they had a mechanic ride with me and he said it was a problem Ford new about, and called it a radial bounce, he mentioned nothing about the exhaust, although I have heard of this before. The third time they said it was my tires. The right front is scalloped from misalignment.
I wonder, if it is the exhaust, I'd be willing to change to the Flowmaster or Harley to get this corrected. Sure wish someone could help us. Mine is a White/Gold Lariat, 5.4, with Leather Captains chairs. Love the truck but hate the vibration. Help

AMPIII,
I have the Harley Exhaust System on mine
I took the weight off at the clamp in front of the muffler and that helped alot.
I ask what would smaller muffler do and they said would make it worse. If I take off faster then normal you don't feel it unitl you get about 52 mph then at 56 it's gone,
but have some exhaust dorne then.
Let me know if you find out anything.
