Question Working Nerf Bar/Step

OK, A couple of unexpected dollars have fell into my hot little hands and I'm buying toys for my SuperCrew. The lid mentioned in another post, an alarm system which I haven't started researching yet, and a set of nerf bar/steps. I do need a functional step and I want as much protection from parking lot dings and brush scratches as possible.

Can some of you point me in the right direction? I purchased a set of running boards for a Suburban recently that forced me to step over them making access worse than without them which I found very irritating so I am somewhat cautious now. A bad back and uneven terrain make easing access important.

Thanks to All,
Hu

PS I have read earlier posts, I still need a little clarafication. Thanks, Hu

For me the answer was Westin.
Great SuperCrew fit, EASY install,
Big decision: Chrome or Black,
I chose Black on my White truck
... Love them
Purchase from TPCarGuy.com

Cool

I second that, Westin are great.
If you don't go with black, you also have to decide if you want stainless steel instead of chrome.
I went with stainless steel since they gave me a lifetime protection (chrome 3 years).

Have you guys checked out the Westin website? If you go to it at:
http://www.westinautomotive.com/page...ep%20bars.html

you'll see that they have chrome over stainless steel products!

I've ordered the "Platinum CPS (chrome plated stainless steel) Step Bars" and expect them to be in any day now. I ordered them through Pep Boys, using the part number from the website. They have a LIFETIME guarantee! You can see it under the "support" tab on their home page.

Once I get them, and get them installed (doing it myself), I'll let you know what I think (if that's worth anything...lol).

Rudy beat me to it...lol. He posted that one while I was typing...lol

How do you like 'em Rudy? Did you install them yourself? Do they work well as a step? Thanks ahead of time!

Question

Thanks Guys,

A couple of follow-up questions: Do you find yourself using the bars as a step, particularly getting out of the truck? Another question, can you use spacers to move the Weston's out further from the body if needed?

Thanks again,
Hu

Hu,

Check out the different bars out there. The Westin's mount very tight to the cab in my opinion. This makes using them as a step dificult fo some. I went with the Black Ram nerf bars for the reason they are about 2 inches further out from the body than the Westins. Both are great products the choice is yours.

jimsfausn or anyone, how much are these and how well do they work as a step getting in and out?

Cool

I have a 4x4, I use the Westin Steps getting in. Jump getting out. They would be tough when getting out, but I like jumping.

I specifically like the tighter fit of the Westins. It is a sleeker streamlined look.
I have no problem using them as a step. The may be a problem if you are wearing size 18 work boots, but I have not had a problem.

I do not think you can add a spacer to extend them out. The way they mount it would move them in.

RC Merlin:
I like your attitude...lol. The only problem is I work too much! Example: I got off work at 3am this morning, went to bed by 3:30, up at 6:30 and off to another job until 4:30pm. Then I'll start another job at 6pm till 4am tomorrow!

Of course I'm on my lunch break right now and could have put one of the brackets on out in the parking lot instead of checking in here...lol. I'm looking at Monday, but thanks for the motivational inspiration...lol.
