RE-ALIGNMENT??
Not that you are doing it; but running frequently in 4WD high will also result in unusual or uneven tire wear. There are some, for whatever reason, keep their truck in 4WD high. Just a thought.

An ASE mechanic friend of mine was checking out my truck the other day and noticed that my front tires were showing signs of unusual wear. I couldn't tell the difference, so I asked the service writer at my dealership about it, and he said bring it in for a look. Sure enough, he said the tires looked a bit more worn than they should for the amount of miles on the truck. (3400) He told me that they don't align vehicles at the factory, because they are normally set-up "on-track" during the assembly process. He also said now is the time to re-align the tires, while Ford will still cover the cost. So be warned, if it looks like your tires are wearing prematurely, get them re-aligned before your first 12mos is up!!
P.S. That dealership still has that Harvest Gold 4X4 ... if anyone is interested!

My tires with 3500 miles were so badly worn on the outside (think they call it cupping) that the dealership bought me two new front tires.....Told them since they didn't to high speed balancing I would take it elsewhere to have them put on So I traded the two new fronts for alittle dowm payment on a set of 315/75/16. I also have a friend with a Screw that is having the same problem. So if I though I was having this same problem I would make them buy me a new set.
Interesting. I have the same problem along with "Wandering Screw",(see older post). After 2 visits to Ford, I took the truck to one of our best front-end shops. Lo and behold, after 3 minutes on the rack, we find the pitman arm and the idler arm have movement. This allows for the side to side wandering and premature tire wear. Took it back to the ford dealer and pointed it out. Techs said no way (11k miles). After some heated discussion, we also found the steering box shaft would travel approx. 2 inches. But of course "that's normal" according to techs. Normal my as$!!! Long story short- new pitman arm, steering box,ac compressor(was ticking during compress cycle) and idler arm on order. I plan on getting new tires also. They just don't know it yet.
Great info on this site folks. we all learn from each other. Keep it up..

Hey Folks,
I'm having the same problem. I have had mine into the dealership twice to no avail it still pulls to the right.
I'm getting pretty frustrated with the whole situation.

FYI,
Took my SCrew to a different dealer due to the wandering problem and tires cupping. I discussed the problem with the tech and explained that the other dealer said the prob was "normal." But that I had taken the truck to our county's best front end shop and they found play in the pitman arm and the idler arm. Also found the steering shaft comuing out of the steering gearbox to have excessive play up and down. The tech put it on the rack and within a few minutes found the same problems. He ordered all new front end components and said this may be an early production problem.(4/11/00 build date)
Also,I had the local glass shop inspect the rear window seal while at the dealer. He took one look and had them order a complete new rear trim piece which has the seal glued to it. He also told me this is a problem with all newer Fords and dealer's know it but won't say anything unless you do. Imagine that ! I looked at several new SCrews on the lot and they all had the same problem. So heads up everyone. Your rear window is probably the same. He pointed out that the new rear sliders have a tendency to leak after awhile from the top seal. He said to keep an eye out for drips of water inside the backglass after a heavy wash or rain.
Anyway, these are little things that are a common problem on our trucks. We just need to keep everyone informed and get them fixed! They truly are a great truck.

I have a follow-up on my truck. The wife took the truck in last weekend for me because I had to work. Turns out the truck was "toe'd out" a little to much. There is nothing else loose, or out of adjustment. This is good news

Same with mine. It has pulled a little to the right since I've had it. It pulls faster at higher speeds. I took it back and it to was "toe'd out" too much. After a front end alignment it rides fine.
A buddy of mine that works for the county said the mechanics told him to warn me about the front end alignment, when he told them of my new SCrew. They have a fleet of 150's, and superdutys and it's a common and accepted practice when they get a new delivery to do the front ends 'cause they're all so out...... Do you have to do the rears also??

Another 4X2 front end comment. Mine pulled when I left the dealership and looked like the outside of the front tires, particularly the right side wanted to scuff. I took it back to the dealer and they aligned the front end with about twenty miles on the truck. The service tech said caster, camber, and toe had all needed adjustment.
