Question Gas Mileage

Can anyone tell me what kind of gas mileage they are getting with Supercrew 4x4 and 5.4 liter motor?

I'm not sure which one to order 2WD or 4WD
Lariat the only way.

Screwkid,

I'll go first........

Using regular gas I'm averaging about 11-12 in the city(100%) right now with a 1000+ miles on it. Not much need to go long distance right now for me, but 2 100+ mile round trips netted me about 17mpg. No worse than I was getting at 9-10(city-wise) with the 4.6L I had in my Expedition.

If you do a quick search of the message board for "gas mileage", you'll find a wide spectrum of mileage variances. A few just unbelievable, but most with average mileage for a large late model Ford pickup. Still all are much better than the old days of the big block 4bbl carburetor.

I got 14.1 mpg on first full tank after a half tank refill with 450 on the odometer. That's no more than a 300 mile range with 87 octane. My Ford service mgr. says only use 87, and 89 if you are pinging. Do not use 92 at all. These motors are not made to run it. Hope it gets a little better, cause I'm still gonna be a leadfoot.

I get 12.4 mpg in stop and go city driving, which works out to 286 miles to a tank after the low fuel light has been on a while and 2 gallons are left in the tank. This is my average mileage to and from work on a 14 mile trip that has about 8+ stop lights and average speeds of about 40. Today I took a different route which is mostly interstate in hopes of offsetting the slight drive time increase with a couple more mpg.

I think the best I have ever gotten on the highway is 17. I was getting consistent mileage in the 13s and over 300 miles to a tank with no problem up to a month ago, which is about the same time I put the factory cab steps on. These things weigh about 80 pounds but I do not think the weight or wind drag really makes that much difference, but strange my mileage dropped at the same time. I also added a hard bed cover but contrary to hopes, the reduced drag did not result in any mileage gains.
I always run 87 octane of off-brand gas that costs $1.399. Overall, the mileage sucks, but this truck aint no honda civic either.

I get 12-13 city (usually 13) and 15+ on highway. I've got 5K miles now, and have not seen much fluctuation.

I have to agree with everybody else 12-13 around town and 17 plus on the highway. I just put the ford cover on the bed, so I can't wait to see if that helps the milage.
About the same as I was getting with my explorer.

I've got the 5.4 4x2 with just under 4000 miles, and I'm getting about 14.5. But I do almost all city driving. I now have a cover as well, we'll see if does more than keep the snow out of the bed! I love the truck so much anyway, I could get 5 mpg., I wouldn't care!!

I'm averaging 15 mpg since day 1. Currently have 13k miles on my SCrew. I only use 93 octane and have been satisfied with the mpg. One must understand the SCrew is a large windplow with a weight of approx. 3550 lbs. Installed a s-chip and noticed increased power w/o sacrificing mpg. I pull a heavy boat and occaisional race / show car and the performance is good. If you are concerned about fuel cost, then the SCrew isn't where you want to be. Otherwise, just be ready to answer a whole lot of questions about your truck at every gas stop.....

1stnuford,
I think you mean the weight is closer to 5550 the 3550 (base weight is 4914). If Ford could get the weight down to 3550 we would all probably be getting 21 mpg

I got 15.2 on first tank with mixed driving. I won't run 92 as it just raises costs without any demonstrable benefit. BTW owner's manual calls for 5w20 oil.

I'm getting 12-14 city and 16-18 highway, running 93 octane & s-chip. Overall average over 5600 miles is 15.5, and those miles are about 60% highway.

As has been mentioned above, this is no Civic, but for something as large, heavy and capable as this s-crew is, that's not bad mileage at all.

It's been absolutely flawless, with no problems of any kind - awesome truck!

Exclamation

I have had the truck for 10k miles. 4X2 5.4
City 14.5 to 15.0
mixed 14.5 to 15
all highway 15.5 to 16.5
Worst ever 13.8
Best ever 16.8
This really is not bad for a big heavy TRUCK. If you are looking for gas mileage you need to look at a compact car,

Cool

I have been getting around 13-15 with freeway driving with a small mix of city driving. I usually drive at 65-70mph too. The best I have got is just over 16 mph, and that was driving the same route, so i must of had a tail wind at some point.

I have decided to try some new gas as Mike T. has said certain gases give you better energy content for better conbustion. I will be running 92 octane and I just switched to Mobile 1 5-30 synthetic. The first tank with 92 has been Citgo at $2.01 a gallon.

I'm hoping for better mileage, but I know this is a not a compact car, that's why I have one to commute with two of my four work days. The other two, I have my kids with me to take to the baby sitter, and there is no way i'm taking them in a small compact. BIG IS BETTER when it comes to safety.
