New Sterio System In my Screw
I am looking for a new sterio system in my Screw. I have looked around and read some post about people fitting 8"s and 10"s under the half seat in the back. Being a teenager, I want lots of bass. I have thought about putting two 10"s in a custom box under the half seat and replacing the factory speakers in the doors. I don't know however, to use the factory size (5x7) or get some 6x8 or 6x9 and get a mounting braket or do some cutting which i prefer not to do. I was thinking about keeping the regular deck in and just using a step down or something to ge preamps to hook an amp for the subs to. I need to know what kind of speakers to use that will work together in the box, and if i should replace the speakers in the doors and how much power the amp should supply.
Thanks

The F-150's use 6x8 speakers. You will be happier getting a true 6x8 not a 5x7/6x8 fits all speaker. Usaually what happens with the 5x7/6x8 fits-all does is it doesn't fit the 6x8 opening well and leaves a gap which causes lower bass output. What I have also seen in the Screw is behind the back seat there is a storage area that you can remove and replace with a sub box. Do a search in the Screw topic for stereos, etc. and I believe that is where I have seen it. Idid also see one in the Super Duty area. Check it out. I think you'll like it. It also keeps everything out of the way and concealed. You can check out my install on the sight in my signature.

Let me ask the question I think were all wondering: What's a teenager doing with a $30,000 truck??? Boy have things changed since I was your age!

Your lucky you got to drive to high school. Our parking lot was small enough that unless you were in the vocational school and absolutely had to leave in the middle of the day, you flat out didn't get a parking pass, you WALKED ... (uphill both ways, I just had to add that!!) My first peice of sh** ... uh well I mean my first ride was a '69 Newport that didn't run very well. Kids these days drive cars much better than me, until last June.
It's called disposable income, the kids have it,... we don't. We have to be grown-up and pay mortages and braces and college, and well you get the idea!!

thank you all for your post, about the teenager having a $30,000 truck well i got it from my dad who had it for a few months before me. Sonoma Super Crew, i looked at your truck in youyr sig and mine is identacal exept its the dark red. I agree times have changed but go drive by any high school and check out the cars. If your really intrested go drive by a private high school and all the 16 year olds with there bmw's and mercedes. Thats a trip. Well thank you for your post. Bomber i responded to your post with an email. also i thoguht the factory size was a 5x7? i don't know. Thank you red97 for your post also. I will consider replacing the speakers in the doors with 6x8's and put two 10's under the back seat. If i want to get serious about putting a big system in i will take out that storage space and pack it with speakers. Thank you again for all your posts.

Many years in the autosound bussiness here's some advice:
First of all don't judge a speaker by its diameter. Far more inportant is the relationship between the speaker and its enclousre. Second stay away from oval speakers all bad. Go for round, and size round beats any size oval, period. Several manufactures make a replace ment that fits a 6X8 hole thats has a ROUND 5 or 6 inch woofer with or without a tweeter to use the rest of the space no cutting required. But I'd put the tweeters up hi. line of sight. For power, get all you can afford many amps have hi power inputs so you can run directly from your indash head unit to the amp. Use seperate amps for woofers and tweeters/full rangers. About a 10 to one ratio ie 100 watts per woofer and 10 watts per tweeter. Put a full set of two woofers and two tweeters front and rear. Should kick ***. Check out Crutchfield.com for more info.
