vin number on frame
Could somebody let me know if there is a vin # printed (knocked into) the chassis.
The Dutch government requires that the vin number is "writen" on the chassis and I can't find it.

Dutchy,
There is a VIN on the framerail but not in the sense that your Govt. wants. The mfg stamps an encoded VIN that's used by the Police to ID the truck should it be dismantled if stolen(God forbid).
I'll check in work for you to see if we have any info on the 2001's yet, but I can't promise anything. I'll try to post a positive or negative answer by tomorrow nite.

Dutchy,
I fouled up slightly. The VIN is etched on the framerail, but not encoded like I previously mentioned. Only the engine has the VIN encoded these days. Primarily on foreign vehicles as far as the US.
As for the 2001's we don't have any info yet on where the VIN is placed this year. A co- worker added you'll probably have a hard time locating it anyway due to the black undercoat on the frame. He did recommend that you have your local authorities contact the NICB at www.nicb.org for the current location of the needed info. They would be the first to know since they work directly with the car makers.
Sorry I couldn't help more, but it's too early in the model year for us to have the NICB manuals yet. We generally get the "current" info 5-6 months into the year. :>(

tlister,
You are right I could not find it and failed the inspection this morning. I will have to try and find it this weekend, hopefully somebody will know where it is etched into the frame. Once I find it, I just go back and show where it's at and then I finally get normal license plates instead of the temporary plates that I have now. Where is the number located on your truck, that might give me some indication on where to start looking.

Dutchy,
I don't have a clue where it is on these models. In the past I've seen the VIN stamped on the inside of the framerail near the transmission. I believe driver side.
You would do well to find out from your local Police if they have any auto theft squad Investigators who can do a physical verification of the VIN and issue you an affidavit for the inspection. I would think due to having a large shipping port over there, there would be a need for Investigators specializing in vehicle identification in the event of vehicle thefts/recoveries. Port cities here are always big for high price stolen vehicles being boxed and shipped overseas.

Well this was great but no success anyway. Went to the inspection station today and the inspector stated that the vin needs to be clearly visible on the chassis, so it has to be on the side of the chassis. Since Ford does not place the vin number on the side of the chassis I had to pay and have it ingraved onto the side of the chassis. (security=none) Anyway, this was the last part of the inspection and now we are done.
NEVER AGAIN.
NEVER AGAIN.
Dutchy; I was thinking about your situation tonight. I'm sure you have told us before but I must have missed it and since you win the prize for travelling the farthest with a Crew maybe you could fill us in on your story. I mean coming all the way to the states to pick up a truck is pretty impressive!
Just curious!

kkirt1,
Don't have much time to explain the whole story, but here is the short version.
We ordered our "first" screw from AAFES (department of defense) and there were some complications with that order. Cancelled it and came to the states and bought one from an old Air Force friend (who is now a Ford dealer). Anyway everything was going great till the truck arrived in Germany and we found that the spare tire, floormats, fog lights and seat covers were stolen during transport. Then after a few minor problems (about 500 dollars worth I was finally finished getting it a Dutch license plate yesterday.) Right now I say "never again" but when I get in and drive it, it all just seemes to go away and I just think about how much I enjoy this Screw.
So anyway, what is my price?????
