Remote Entry...CAUTION!
Started up the SCREW last night to warm it up and guess what happens!
I unhooked the ignition key from the "remote entry" fob thinking that I would be able to get back into the running, but locked truck by just clicking the open door button on the control.
So...here I am 70km from home(11pm), truck is warmimg up...doors are all locked...but I have the "remote entry control" in my pocket again thinking that all I have to do is click the unlock button and the doors will open.......NOT NOT NOT!
What the heck is going on here guys...has Ford programmed these trucks so that if the truck is running the "remote entry" does not work? What is the sense of having this remote option if it doesn't work while the truck is warmimg up.
Can the truck be re-programmed so that a person is able to get into the truck while running and the doors are locked?
Needless to say last night was an adventure!

i think the key faub can only be used if the truck is off. the unit is engineered to be used to open and close a vehicle that is not in use. great idea, but you froze more than the truck that night i'll bet... do you have the keyless touch entry on the drivers door ?..great option,,,

Hi Nick...no keyless touch entry for this cowboy!
I wish now that I did have the keyless touch entry though! I am going to phone Ford this morning and find out what gives with the "remote entry" not working when the truck is running and locked....I will updated everyone when I hear.
This sucks!!

I found this out the hard way on my previous 1998 f150. I was fortunate enough to have tried it for the first time in our driveway.
My wife had the other set of keys in the house. I would love to be able to warm up the truck as well and use the remote to get in.

ATTENTION ALL FORD OWNERS THAT HAVE "REMOTE ENTRY"
When warmimg up your good looking Ford as we Canadians are now doing because of winter...or for those who are cooling down vehicles with airconditioning such as those in the undecided state of America (Florida)....DO NOT lock your doors when your truck/car is running and expect to automatically open them back up with your "remote entry" control fob.
Ford has said that this is a safety theft feature they have programmed and can not be changed....Bla Bla Bla!
BOTTOM LINE!..."remote enrty" DOES NOT work or open locked doors if the ignition key is in.
Carry an extra key!!

Hey 2001,
Don't feel too bad, my wife & I just went thru that, and I had to get up in the middle of the night and go rescue her. Her truck was sitting there idling for over an hour like that, and the first thing I tried to do was to unlock it using my remote for her vehicle, and of course, that didn't work, we had to use another set of keys.

FYI: I have left my truck running when I needed to make a quick stop into a corner store and have locked and unlocked it with my keypad with no problem.
Do you guys not have the keypad on the door?
Someone on this site has posted info about installing a keypad and it was fairly easy to do and did not really cost a fortune.

Or get an extra key made (valet key) and leave it in a safe place. Maybe duct tapes to a frame member? Or go to AAA and get a wallet key made ($5 I think). Neither of these 2 options will be able to run the truck (no code chip in the key) but will keep you from a long walk or wait. Just a thought.

I have an extra "regular" key in my wallet, it wont run the truck, but it gets me in. 99 cents, problem solved.

Why is everyone locking their vehicle while its running?
I always leave my window partially down when I step out of the truck. Even the custom alarm I had on my Dakota did the auto-lock with the doors; its meant to protect the driver from car-jacking. If the truck's running it assumes the driver is in there. As soon as I got the Screw, I had it lock the passenger door on me twice when I grabbed at the passenger handle, then slipped off.
I don't trust it, so I'm getting a spare.

2001,
All I can say is: I know how you feel.
Here's my story:
A few years ago I bought a new Windstar which has the keyless remote. Well, one day I had taken my wife and 1yr old son to the store, I had forgotten a list of items I needed, at home. Well, my son was asleep in his car seat so I dropped my wife off at the store, and quickly drove home to get my list. Still, my son was asleep in the back. When I got home, I didn't want to wake him up to bring him in the house while I ran in real quick, so I took off the key fob, and locked the doors with the van running and the heat on (it was about 25 deg.F). Imagine my surprise to find that I couldn't get in! I didn't panic to bad though. I ran in and got the phone and called the store that I left my wife at. She had the only other key. Well, I went over to a neighbor and he went and got my wife. When she got home, we opened the doors. My son was still asleep and as snug as a bug!!!
So I learned a very important lesson!..
NEVER! EVER! LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING WITHOUT AN ACTUAL KEY AVAILABLE!

Thanks for the headsup everyone!
It dropped down to 20 last night here in the frozen tundra of Northeast Tennessee, with snow expected tonight and Monday, so I planned on warming up my baby and locking it.
You just saved me a great pain. Thanks again!

Well I would like to say that I have never had that problem ... but I did this very same thing about 2 weeks ago. I was warming up the truck, getting ready to go to work. I'm not sure, but I bet I hit the door lock button on the way back in the house, and the fob wouldn't re-open the door!! OOOPS!! The wife, (who leaves earlier than me) had to jump in the car and come and open 'er up! Boy is that embarassing at work!! I'm getting a slave door key this weekend. By the way, someone on this site reported that a replacement key was about $90 or so? That is true if you only have 1 of your original keys!! If you still have both of them, the dealership can get you a 3rd key, completely programed for your truck for under $30. Just make sure you take both of them with you when you go there! It beats $90!!!
