Question What Oil ? (sae5-20 ?)

What oil is everyone using ?
The Ford manual suggest we use SAE 5-20 for the 4.6L and 5.4L motors, do these engines have such tight tolerances, to require thin oil, or is it to improve gas mileage, or maybe Ford is the only place that we would find sae 5-20 oil ?
I am planning to change to Mobil 1 after 10K to 12K miles.

Thumbs up

My owner's manual says to use 5W-30, so at my first oil change last week, I used Mobil 1 at the change. (5W-30)

Most of my miles are highway miles and I intend on changing it every 5000 miles.

Good Luck!

Used 5W-20 purchased from dealer just last week. Manual says to use 5W-20 as does the oil filler cap.

Ford and Mobil are the only two suppliers of 5w20 I have been able to find so far. No synthetic as yet. Perhaps the Ford is made by Mobil. Who knows? My truck calls for 5w20 so that is what I'll run.

F-150's w/4.6L or 5.4L V-8's manufactured after 07/10/00 require SAE 5W-20W. Those manufactured prior to 07/10/00 require SAE 5W-30W. If you have any doubt the owner's manual which came with the truck will specify.

On another mailing list i subscribe to, the poster mentioned buying 5w-20 at a local Walmart. Anybody needing it may as well try there before going to the dealer and paying 3 times as much if they do carry it.......
