Pics for 2001 Sierra Crew Cab out
Leeman,
I've got to admit that a longer bed and a few more horses is appealing. Of course,IF I really needed that, I would have gone with the F-250 ... now THAT's a great looking truck!! ... rather than the Chevy crew cab @ http://pickuptruck.com/html/news/2001_GMC_Crew_Cab.html
... I suppose "imitation" is the most sincere form of flatery, and obviously Chevy is playing catchup.
I have a large, full size garage and must remove my trailer hitch to get the garage door down with the SuperCrew - - I don't need anything longer. For me ... the Screw is the perfect size ... with plenty of power ... and great, head turning looks. Just my $.02.

I've been a Chevy person for the last 20 years but when I see the "new"(HA HA) crew cab offering I'm glad I bought a Ford. GM needs to learn to lead, no follow the competition. Too little, too late in my opinion.

pickuptruck.com is smokin some serious crack! Anyone who looked at that truck could see it is a 3/4 ton 2500-series. The 8600-lb GVWR quoted in the article proves it. While it isn't the 2500HD, it still isn't GM's proposed competition for the SuperCrew. That vehicle is the Avalanche, which IMHO is butt-ugly. It looks like it is styled by the Pontiac people, which I have said for years need to be removed of their "plastic body-cladding priveleges"!
The supercrew is better looking than the chevy shown. I am sure it rides better too. Love my supercrew. No regrets or second thoughts.

To add to nickG's post about Ward's top ten listing of the 5.4, take a look at the power ratings listed in the Feb 99 Truck Trend article comparing Chevy, Ford and Dodge www.trucktrend.com/feb99/4x4/4x4_f.html . It was comparing supercabs, but the supercrew uses the same transmission and engine.
Apparently, Ford has a much more efficient automatic transmission. You can have all the torque and horsepower you want under the hood, but it doesn't mean anything unless it gets to the wheels - where it counts! I find Chevy's advertisements a bit misleading. Perhaps Chevy has made some improvements, but I have not seen any stats that differ yet.

The truck shown is not a 3/4 ton, but a 1/2 ton HD...Has some of the 3/4 ton options including 6.0 liter engine(300 HP) and the eight lug wheels and tires but rides on the ligther duty frame...The HD's sit about 3 inches higher than the 1/2 ton pictured because of the allison transmisson that is so big the body had to be raised...I am not sure how the 5.4L engine beats out the 5.3 because I had the 5.4l and its feel as strong as the 5.3...6.0 liter is a different story yet...I would have bought the super crew if Ford would have juiced up the 5.4 but i was afraid of getting into another underpowered vehicle...I know thew s crew weighs alot less but i drove one and it still didn't feel powerful enough...maybe because of the 3.55 gears...I really have no preference between Ford or Chevy, i just pick the one i like better and right now it will be the 2001 crew cab 2500HD LT 4x4 Swb with the 6.0....As you can see i had a super duty and loved it..no problems except that the 5.4 was underpowered, v-10 sucked too much gas and the PSD was too $$$$ for my needs...

FedEx, I noticed that you have installed different speakers front and rear. Any particular reason? How did the sound change?

sorry 4x4, but the 2500hd is the new competion for the super duty, not the supercrew. the title says it all(they already
have a 2500ld. my brother-in-law has an extende cab one with the 6.0 engine, but it
doesn't use the allison trans. only the hd
will use the allison

Yep the 2500 HD is competition for the Sduty, but the 1500 Crew Cab is directed at the S crew....but has bigger engine, more rear end choices, full 6.5 foot bed....Its really based on your needs, if you need a bigger bed and bigger engine go with the chevy, if you really don't need the full bed then the s crew is the way to go....I really don't need the full bed but I wanted a powerful engine...6.0 liter has 325 HP for 2001 versus the the 5.4l with 255HP...Don't get me wrong I liked the s crew alot, just couldn't get the 5.4 again...
Woody, nice truck...but i'll get you a picture of my new chevy when i get my six inch lift and 35 inch tires and billet grill, and etc...and then we will see...Nice truck again though, i was going to do the same thing to mine if i got the s crew...
