Post Full Metal Jacket Spray-in

I posted in bedliners but its a *slow* forum... :-D

Anyone got experiences with this product?

Its 100% Polyurea which is supposed to have better properties than polyurathane.

In case anyone might be interested, I think I'm going with a the "Full Metal Jacket" spray-in product by Specialty Products, Inc.
Website http://www.specialty-products.com

After doing some research on polyurea Vs polyurethane based spray-in liners (like line-x or Rhino), it looks like polyurea is actually tougher and superior in almost every aspect over polyurethane. I have seen the product applied and it seems really tough yet still pliable enough not to crack.

There is more info and links in the bedliner forum of where I got my info. A search of polyurea on http://www.dogpile.com was also helpful.

Thought I would share my experience in case someone cares

Well, I got the Full Metal Jacket™ spray-in liner today in East Haven, CT. The 2 guys that own and run the shop were very personable and professional. The whole job was done in 2.5 hours. They covered (protected) the truck, sanded the bed, wiped it down with acetone afterwards, removed every bolt, tie down and rear plugs as requested before spraying. Absolutly no hasles or extra charge to do so. I asked to get a medium roughness finish and it came out just perfect. Just a bit harsher than an orange peel. The product goes on hot and smooth as glass and the texture is done by a spraying technique. I was able to watch the entire process and talk to the guy doing the job the whole time.

Thier normal charge for a short-bed is $325. There is a $25 coupon at http://www.babycoupons.com/local/2000-02/stead-001.html which brings it down to a real bargain at $300.

2 thumbs up for Stead-Fast Custom Linings in East Haven, CT.

I left impressed.

Question

Screwball,
Thanks for making the leap. I still don't have my truck yet but expect it this month.
I was gonna do the Line-x thing 'cause a dealer is located near my dad's place in NH. I could visit and take care of the truck while saving the 5% sales tax. It was gonna be $395.00.
I am now considering going with the Full Metal since it will be 300 plus tax.
What color did you get? Is it as good or better than rhino or line x? How thick is it. Are the lines clean and crisp? what is the warranty?

Thanks.

The Nov. issue of 4 Wheel and Offroad reviewed some spray on liners. Although didn't review the Full Metal Jacket liner, the article may be of help.

Vesjas,

I really like the Full Metal Jacket (FMJ). The lining looks like a factory finish and the lines are crisp and clean. It still drains properly and lets rain water out. The product is about a 1/4 inch thick on the bottom and 1/8 inch around the sides and my bed extender works well and still "locks" into place (actually it fits snug with no play in it... might even be more theft resistant now... ). I will post pictures soon. Since My SCrew is Black, I got the black. They do have colors as well for more money.

The owner had an older Ford ranger with Line-x and a newer Dakota Quad-cab with FMJ applied. (FMJ was not available when the Line-x was applied to the Ranger). Side by side the texture was very similar. Both seemed tough, durable and skid resistant. The owner was going to open up a Line-x shop but found that the FMJ using polyurea was a superior product and cost less in franchise fees. Since he offers a lifetime warranty, he wanted less of a chance for a warranty repair.

The Nov. issue of 4 Wheel and Offroad said nice things about the polyurea based spray-in they reviewed. Their article stated that polyurea was more slippery than Polyurethane spray-ins but I can assure that the FMJ, as was applied on my truck, is not slippery at all. I think it was the way that it was applied that makes or brakes the product. The guy who did mine is a perfectionist type person and very concerned in achieving a nice end product.

nuff said, I'm starting to sound like a salesman!

ScrewBall,
Thanks for doing all the leg-work. I think when my truck comes in I will be going with the FMJ. It is less expensive and you sound pleased with the end product. Good enough for me.
Thanks

SCrewball,
Well I got my truck about 2 weeks ago and just today had the Full Metal Jacket applied.
The liner looks great. The guys (owners) were very nice. They did a nice clean job.
With the coupon and tax I paid $291.50. So far I am very happy.
Thanks for the info. I saved $110.00 over the Line-X.
