I never gave it a lot of attention untill one rainy day when I found myself in an intersection with another car aproaching from the right. He was locked up and sliding as he approached, I think he forgot about the stop sign. Now I think that he would have stopped before he hit me but nonetheless I punched the accelerator. I could actually feel both rear tires hooking up and pushing me out of the intersection! I was supprised especially since I've got those crappy GoodYear RT/S tires. When I stomped on it they started spinning but equally and had me going in a straight line. It never got squirrely and I felt very in control of the truck.
Thats my notable experience with the LS rearend so far, maybe someone else could give you more "hard/technical" info. -wayne

1400 lb is not a lot for the crew but limited slip is a nice thing on a wet ramp.
You did not say if it was 4x4 if so don't sweet it you well have the fronts on dry land.
I pull a 4000lb boat no sweet in 4x2 and don't use 4x4 mode but it sure is nice to know it's there.

I guess you'll get a lot of different opinions on this one...Mine would be if you have a 4x4, I don't see the need for a slip.
rear end..The way I look at it, if your spinning out on one side, you kick in your 4x4 and your out of there. That's my opinion and that's why I didn't order my SuperCrew with a slip-rear end...

Question

You didn't say if you have a 4x2 or a 4x4 coming? In La. you probably wouldn't need the LS all that often on either drive system. But, if you pull your boat too far down the ramp... you may not get out without it. Up here in the northern areas, we use posi for snow traction, with a 4x2 I think it's vital!

Cool

Basically, I agree with the other opinions here. Limited slip diffs are always great when pulling your boat off the boat ramp expecially if the ramps are not always maintained. Grass, moss, seaweed will help you lose that much needed traction. It's fun to watch those 4x2's without LS screeching their vehicles out of the water.

Unhappy

On the topic of differentials: In another post cpafay mentioned that his differential was leaking. I have the limited slip and noticed that mine is also leaking out the front end. I plan on taking it to the dealer soon. Is anybody else seeing any leaking out of their differentials?

Cool

Even with a 4x4 the LS is nice to have. The post above about getting out of the way of a wreck wouldnt have been the same if he wuould have had to switch to 4x to get out of the way. I like the LS when I'm in 2x.

And we have to consider that the tires must not be slipping when changing from 2x4 to 4x4.

I ordered mine with limited slip. Without limited slip, if you get into a situation where one front tire and one rear tire both lose traction, you can get stuck since power is sent to the tire with the least amount of resistance. Even with four wheel drive and limited slip, there are times you may get stuck. The limited slip just reduces the chances of that happening since it will send power to both rear tires even when one has already lost traction. It's a $243.00 (dealer invoice) insurance policy against having to get pulled out! I think it's pretty reasonable in the long run.

Truckdog,
My diff. is also leaking from the front. Not a big leak more like weeping. Just a little wet but not dripping.
