Post Rain noise from door center post area

Tell me I’m not the only one with this problem. During moderate to heavy rain I get a loud water dripping
sound (sounds like a small chain rattling) from the between each side door. (center post area) It sounds like rain is pouring into the truck, but when I inspect the area it all seems fine. Any idea’s???

I was wondering if any one else would bring this up. Sound like to me the rain is smacking into the window surround, perhaps from the airflow off of the mirror? I have only noticed it on the drivers side, but of course I have never been a passenger in my truck during the rain, either. Think this is worth complaining about? My truck is at the dealer now. (leaky rear diff, power steering hose, A/C problem, paint flaw, loose grab handle oil & filter change, ((wonder if they will use 5w-20 or 30 ?))

Now that you mention it, mine makes a loud tapping/dripping noise during good rain as well. I haven't noticed any leaks in my truck, and I've driven through some major downpours, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I've heard this sound as well. I think it is water running down from the roof being channeled between the doors. It does sound a bit strange. Kind of a gurgling sound.

I looked at this a bit closer and noticed a horizontal seal over both doors. That would keep water from getting in to the top of the doors but there is a gap between the doors where, if there was enough rain, it would most certainly run over this seal and go down the post between the doors. Tap on this post near the top and imagine what it would sound like if water ran over this.

I have heard this noise as well. I think I found out what it is. When I was waxing the truck the other day I noticed two one inch gaps at the windshield molding(top). I poured water on the roof in this area to see what would happen. The water went in to the gap/slit and went somewhere into the truck and ended up on the ground????? I think the gap/slit is connected to a tube that runs down the windshied frame and then outside. If this is what you come up with, then I don't think its a problem.

As for cpafay, what type of paint defect did you have? In my post "Clay Bar and Line-x" I mentioned that I have found a ton of paint defects on the roof of the truck and bed. Was the dealer ok with this or did they give you a hard time? What is the fix. I would want a warranty that this would not cause more problems down the road. If you ever sold the truck, you would have to say its been repainted, which may drop the value.
Any way please let me know, thanks

I heard the same noise in my '97 X-cab F150. Wierd!

Speaking of paint flaws... the idiot who delivered my nice new black supercrew put a big ugly a$$ dent on the cab near the rear window! It is being repaired Monday. New paint on a '01 just makes me sick

ACAPILOT,

The paint flaw I have is on the drivers side lower leading edge of the composite fender on the bed just behind the cab. Looks like something got dragged through the paint before it cured and smeared about a 5 inch wide path through the lower 2 tone. Pretty obvious warranty repair, just have not taken the time to get it done. Have not noticed a problem with the roof paint.

BTW, the (new) dealer still can not find a problem with my A/C, but it has been pretty cool here so looks like I will have to wait until next summer to get it fixed.
They replaced my power steering pump (had that screech mentioned in other threads and leaked) as well as replaced the rear end pinion seal which required removing the pumpkin cover so now I have a bead of RTV around an obviously serviced rear. 10,000 miles on it.

Sorry, got way off topic here.

Fits like a bug-in-a-rug Actually I only have a few inches to spare in height but no problems with length or width.

Well....I think I have this rain noise fixed. After reading all your ideas I looked at it closer today and noticed that the weather stripping between the two side doors stops (3" or so) below the roof line. This of course leaves 3" gap for rain to drain in to the doors, causing the noise. I went and bought some new weather stripping and filled in the gap. It's suppose to rain this weekend so I guess I'll see if it works. Check out this weather stripping between your doors for the same problem. Why would Ford leave this gap???
