Post HEY OLDKOOT

old koot thanks for the help on the a/c. you seem to know a little about a/c. today the darn system was acting great. blowing ice cold all day.. could it be a vacuum problem not allowing the vents to open properly while i was on the expressway. its ice cold today.. i have not gone from a/c to panel and back again to see if the compressor is acting ok. i hate to waste a day at the dealer when its not going to do anything wrong so they can fix it..

My experience has been gained from working on , installing and converting classic cars over to R134A. I would suggest you pick up a thermometer that will clip into one of your a/c registers, then you will see the temperature variations. The outlet temperature will vary based on relative humidity and outside air temperature on any given day, whether the system is on recirculate or bringing in outside air to cool. With the system on max, outside temperature of 80 F and driving on the highway should give you an outlet temp of 40 F. Again the real test is to check both the high and low pressure gauge readings at different ambient temperatures will tell you if the a/c system is operating at peak efficiency. The newer vehicles use a smaller amount of refrigerant, larger condensers and smaller compressors so everything must be perfect. If the system is .5 lb low in charge for example you may find the compressor won't engage under certain conditions. You really need the services of a good A/C technician to troubleshoot your system.
