Smile DJer, Thank You so much for the grant info.

DJer,

Thank you for the very useful grant info. I called Pioneer Ford, then went to my dealership. Pioneer already taught my dealership how to install the conversions. I changed my paperwork to show that I'm having natural gas installed; now all I have to do is mail my pre-app!

Just wondering...

I would be surprised if AZ did not ask for fuel receipts on-going. If not, it really sounds like free money. Have my dealer put on a propane tank I will never use to get a $3,000 tax break. Count me in!

You know what they say about "to good to be true!"

KKirt1,
The tax credit is equal to the amount of the conversion ($8,500), in addtion to no sales tax, nor registration and a grant back for part of the cost of the truck. Must be AZ resident, and you do have to keep reciepts that must total at least 100 gallons/year of alt. fuel.

Femseadoo, you welcome. I'm glad to hear that you made it in before it was too late. I ordered my Screw on 7-3-00 and put in the pre-app two days later, but you'll probably get yours before I get mine. I think my dealer is having problems with allocation. I wish he would have told me that when I placed my order.

Did you decide to have the tank put in the bed or under the bed?

DJer,

Sorry to hear about your allocation problem.

I decided to go under the bed. I haven't seen one, but your info. matched what Pioneer
Ford said about it being at about the hitch receiver height. The installer said that it would not interfere with 4x4 unless you're going to do some serious off-roading or rockclimbing with it. He said they'll put a skid plate over the natural gas tank also.

Thanks again,

DJer,

I think my truck will be here before the I get a notification on the pre-app. This makes me nervous due to all the extra cost
involved, so I'm thinking of not taking delivery until I get something back from AZ Commerce.
How long did it take to get your confirmation? Do you know anyone that has problems with the process so far?
Thanks,

It will probably be a few weeks before you get a confirmation card back. But according to the AZ Commerce Rep that was at our work the other day, the pre-app is not really necessary if you are ready to take delivery. You will most likely get an affidavit for the rebate instead of a grant check. The affidavit can be used to get a full refund when you file your taxes next spring.

You can call Az Commerce directly if you have questions. It usually takes them about a day to get back to you.

So far, I don't know of any problems. But, I don't know anyone that actually has their vehicle yet.

DJer, the plot thickens.....
When my Father asked me where the spare tire was going in relation to the natural gas tank, I told him that I didn't really think about that. I called my dealer today and they have never put in a natural gas tank, which I guess is different than the propane tank, but they think that the spare may have to go into the bed of the truck!
Then the dealer said that Pioneer has a monopoly on the tanks and that it may take a month for Pioneer to "let" them have my kit. (Pioneer is 4-6 weeks behind in getting their own customers tanks on, due to too much demand and a lack of tanks.) The guy at Pioneer last week did say that he was 4 weeks behind.
We have to keep our fingers crossed that they can put these things on when our trucks get here, otherwise, we'll just have to drive by and visit our trucks on the lot.

My salesman told me that it would take 2 to 4 weeks for the conversion to get done, once my truck arrives. But, if things continue to go like they have been with this dealer, it will take at least 6 weeks.

I spoke to the inventory manager yesterday, and he couldn't even tell me for sure if my truck would get scheduled this week. I'm 10 weeks into this and I don't even have a schedule yet!

DJer,

My truck was built a week early, so maybe yours is just around the corner. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I got my postcard back in the mail about the AFV.
My dealer has 5 vehicles waiting to get tanks installed already. (Doesn't sound like a lot, but I think there's only one main mechanic that can put them on.
Patience, patience.......

Femseadoo,
your profile lists your occupation as professional. Just guessing and curious, will you be testing your professional skills here in Havasu this October? -wayne

Crewchief,
If you're referring to the world jet-ski finals, I may be there as a spectator. Haven't done any pro races, (just whomever is on the lake; I especially like to beat the new Yamahas.) I thought about racing until I blew my knee out jumping big waves a few years ago, missed a lot of time off work (medical professional, can't leave my practice hanging.)

FemSeadoo,

I was out of town for a few days, and hoped that when I got back, my schedule would be updated. It wasn't, my build is still scheduled for the week of Oct 2nd.

I went by Pioneer Ford last week to look at the under-the-bed propane tanks. On most of the vehicles, they look ok. But, I didn't see and 4x4 F150s, so I'll have to make another trip out there before I make my final decision. Pioneer Ford has stacks of tanks lying around. And from what I understand, they have 6 certified installers. But for some reason, there are at least 50 cars in their back lot waiting for the installs.

DJer,

My truck arrived today. No rusty parts underneath, everything is shiny.
I guess with natural gas you can only utilize 30% of the huge tanks capacity before it registers as empty due to a lack of pressure. Spare cannot go underneath. The propane tanks are smaller and I may be able to rig up something to hold the spare under there. (None of the tanks I saw today were exactly for a Crew.) Natural gas tanks are taking a long time to make because each is custom made for the vehicle. I can get propane quicker whenever Pioneer decides to let one go.
I think I'll tell them to go with propane tomarrow.
Thanks again for the info.; I got in just in time. All the rules are changing now because the program is running out of money.
Those with pre-apps in are fine!

Congrats Femseadoo. My truck is still scheduled to be built next week, and hopefully it will be delivered as quickly as yours. I heard on the radio that the grants will probably go away, but it does sound like we will both be ok. I expect to get the full amount when I file my taxes next year.

I didn't know you could only use 30% of the CNG in the tank. Now I'm really glad that I decided to go with propane.
