Question Rear door locks

The rear doors on my SCrew will not unlock by using the handle. The child safety lock is off. Is this normal? I tried it on both doors, with the child safety lock on and off. Just wondering if this is normal.

Thanks

Rick

I have an EB Expedition and it has the self locking doors when you put the truck in gear. I would have to assume that the trucks are similar. The rear doors will not open with the handle if they are locked like the front ones will. This is for safety. The rear passagers must unlock before opening. The child safety switch when engaged will not allow the door to open with the handle even when the door is unlocked. This door must be opened from th exterior.

Thumbs up

Shads,

Bought my SCrew three weeks ago. Shopped around quite a bit after sending a fax to 14 dealers requesting bids. Ended up buying my SCrew at invoice. MSRP was $33,085, paid $28,880 for it. Bought it from Friendship Ford in Bristol, TN. Process was painless.

Have as much info as possible before you begin to negotiate. Most dealers are pretty proud of their SCrews and tend to try to sell them at higher costs, but there is enough of a supply out there where you can play dealers off again each other to get a great price.

You'll be glad you did!

ralderman,
my Screw rear doors do not unlock by pulling the handle - the front doors do unlock when you pull the handle. I assumed it was a safety feature-

I seem to recall that even back in the late 70's, Ford's four door cars were made the same way. We could never open the rear doors by the handle if the doors were locked. This was before child safety seats and the huge emphasis on seat belts. The kids were usually in the back seat, so I suppose this was a safety feature to keep junior from playing with the handle and falling out of the moving car. If the kid was in the front seat, the driver would probably see it getting ready to happen, so it was not as much a concern.

Ok, maybe I'm blind to the obvious but isn't the "child safety" latch supposed to disconnect the interior latch? If so, why should the door NOT open the lock like the fronts do? If you don't want it to lift the lock, throw the safety switch. If you like to live "on the wild side" leave the latch off and be able to get out. Seems like a redundant design flaw to me. I'm looking into making mine like the front

Overide the auto locking feature as descibed in the owners manual and you won't have to worry about it. Gives you the option to decide when and where you want the doors locked.

I think it is suppose to be redundant. Ford would rather be safe than sorry when a child is concerned (I hope).

BTW, what is an extra fuel consumption package?

The Extra Fuel Consumption Package comes on all super crews. It is simply a promise from Ford that no Super Crew will ever get good gas milage no matter what the modification. its standard equipt.......get it!!!!!!

nickG - Sounds like you understand about the "FUEL PACKAGE". You mean it comes standard? I paid $500 extra for it! LOL

Tadashi - I too care about children and would not want to see one harmed. I just think you should be able to unlock/open doors with one motion (like the fronts do) when apropriate (sp?)When the kids are in it, switch the safety latch. I guess it's Ford's answer to the consumer's never ending ability to find some way to F&$K themselves up with a product and blame someone else. (sorta like ruining a steel ball with a rubber malet)
