Added lift kit, wheels/tires to Supercrew
Usually, I'm not a huge fan of the monster trucks that are jacked up to the moon, but I decided to do a little work on my 4x4 supercrew---just enough to keep it looking good but not too gaudy.
I asked specifically if my warranty would be voided and Ford says that a lift kit and wheels and tires would not void my warranty. I might find out that there's a lot of pointing fingers if/when I take it in for warranty work----hopefully not. I've had so many people stop and ask me what equipment I've added---they all love the truck.
I've heard from 3 people that said seeing this truck made their decision to buy the Supercrew a reality. I mean even my total Chevy guys love it. I wonder if Ford will give me some referral kickbacks!
This one has just seems to have the right mix, and it still rides as good as an Expedition. Of course, I have to say that since I spent so much money, but I'd like to get some opinions from some "real Ford truck" fans!
And one question---my speedometer is now off by about 10%, and my dealership says there's nothing they can reset. Is that true? Isn't it all electronic?

Hi: I didn't know any manufacturers had developed a lift kit for the Supercrew. Do you have a part number? I hope to do something like that when mine comes in. do you know if Rancho makes a 2.5" kit? My truck is supposed to be here on 10/9/00 any help on locating a kit would be appreciated, Thanks Mike
Nice job. Am I correct in noting that you have 35's on your 4x4 with just a four inch rancho lift? Did you have to cut any of the plastic around the wheel wells?
Again Nice job!!!!!!!

To answer your question, yes...the speedo can be reprogrammed. You will need to pay to have it fdone since it's obviously not a warranty issue, but it should be less than an hour of shop time. The dealer has a code reader and programmer that he can input a mathematic equation into your computer and correct the sppedo and odometer.
by the way, nice job on your truck....
For everyone's consideration: Would you really want to take your truck to a dealer shop where they won't take care of the customer? My opinion (FWIW) is that you may have to work to find the right service manager, but if he tells you "it can't be done" because he doesn't want the business, then he must not want ANY of my business...

What part of "the people's right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied" don't you understand?

Thanks for the good comments. I'm really happy with it. As for the questions: the lift kit used is the exact same as the F-150 extended cab, 1997 and up (I don't have a part number with me but I could probably find it if you'd like). I assume you can get 2", 4", and 6" kits. The work was done at 4 Wheel Parts Performance in Austin. They have a pretty nice Web site at http://www.4wheelparts.com. The 35" tires forced me to go with a 4" lift, but that's what I wanted anyway. No plastic cut (yet). They do rub slightly when turning REALLY sharp and backing up---just like it does with my 1990 Ford Mustang GT, so I'm kinda used to it. I just don't turn too sharp! And to "mjhind", I don't think any of those trucks look bad! This is just what Ford needed and I'm very happy to see so many people loving the look and feel of this truck. Thanks again for all the kind words. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

No, the speedo cant be reprogrammed. Not one dealer (or aftermarket company) has been able successfully reprogram the computer in 2001 models.
This is an old issue. You can research this in the wheel forums.

Yep, I bought from Covert North. Nice salesman, overall pretty good experience. I didn't like their answer to my asking for a computer reprogramming---they said they only do that as part of a transmission job.
I still have the wheels/tires for sale. Send me an e-mail if you're interested. shatley@austin.rr.com.
