Question Extang Tonneau Covers

Anyone out there using an Extang Tonneau cover. If so how do you like the product? Any drawbacks to attachment to the Super Crew? How is the cover holding up? Do Tonneau covers really impact gas mileage?

Installed an Extang cover 2 months ago. Fit was great, nice and tight . Side frame rails are curved to follow the contour of the box cap-plastic. Nice sold aluminum bows(3) that are pre arched. I had one on my 92 Chev for 8 years and looked the same when I sold it. They hold up very well! Can't say how they effect gas mileage. Took some pictures for you to view

Question

Oldkoot,

I like the idea of painting the bug deflector. Could you give a little info on how you prepped the plastic before painting? Any special coating or primer?

Thanks,
Hu

Scuffed the back side of the deflector with 600 paper to add a little tooth to the plastic, painted with lacquer(hey I still have some after all these years) and finished it off with 2 coats of clear urethane. You can also use a clear primer if you wish to improve paint adhesion.

Believe the Lund part number was 18138. The product brand is their Intercepter line. If you go to www.lundlook.com you will find all the details.

Question

...thought we were talking about the Extang cover...
Anyway, I've had one on for three weeks, and the fit and look are great. Very easy to attach and store. They're fitted very nice over the plastic box overlay, just as koot described. Can't say anything about mileage yet, but logically the tonneau should reduce the air drag that is common in the bed with the tailgate up.

Thumbs up

I have the Extang Classic Platinum with the snaps on my Super Cab and love it! I have had it on my truck for a year in the blazing Florida sun and the cover looks like new. I scrub it with a plastic brush when I wash it and that is it.
