Sorry, no pics of the install, if I get around to it I'll take some and scan 'em in.

The amp mounting wasn't for show, I just needed a place to put it so it is placed with the long dimension vertical. The bottom edge rests on the bottom of the compartment, then I used short machine screws and screwed them through the amp mounting holes into the carpet wall backing only. I didn't want to drill the cabin wall, and this set up will hold up just fine. The screw threads get tangled into the fibers of the carpet and you can tighten them up very tight. They only act to keep the amp from toppling, as the weight is supported by resting it on the bottom of the compartment.

The sub box is sealed and measures 15"W x 11"D by 6"H (outside measurements).
I actually cut the side panels larger (11x8) and built the box with the side panels sticking down an extra 2", then cut them at an angle so they are 8" tall in the front and 6" tall in the back (flush with the box.) This gives me the down/forward angle I wanted for the woofer.

These dimensions were dictated by the requirements of the speaker. There is about 10" more sideways room to play with under the seat but 8" in front and 6" in back is about as tall as you can go under there, and more then 11" deep will make it stick out . There are a couple of raised bumps to watch out for, but my box sits on a totally flat area and slides out easily if I need to fold the seat down.

I used 3/4" MDF cause I had it, I'm sure 5/8 would be stiff enough (wood glue, pre drilled/countersunk drywall screws, and silicone sealed; grey carpet.)

The cables were all run under the drivers side door sills (they just pull up, some clips there.)

If you match the volume of the box to your speaker things should work out fine. A friend of mine told me that the ranges of sealed box volume recommendations yield deeper base if you go with the large number and tighter base if you go with the small number, so you be the judge. I made my box on the larger end for this woofer and the base is suprisingly deep for only an eight.

Sounds like a great system. Can you move the (subwoofer) seat to the down/ flat storage position ??

FedExPilot-

nope, the box prevents you from folding the seat down. You can tilt the seat forward to where the top of the back is 20" away from the wall, but it stops there (enough to get to the amp for adjustments.) To fold the seat flat you need to slide the sub box out, so I put quick disconnects on the cables. There is a support bar that swings down with the folding of the seat so if you still want that capability you can't mount anything permanent under the seats.

That was why I went with a smaller woofer (easier to move) and also installed the amp in the rear compartment (it would get crunched under the seat.)

Here's a little different methodology (see link below). Leaves the rear seat and center console (if you install an Expy) FULLY functional. Took a few days to build the enclosure underneath the console frame, run the wires, etc. Great sound ... suppose that's what really counts ...

FedExPilot, that's very cool! I have a front bench seat, so no possibility for the center console :-(
I really like the pictures that you put in your posts. Next time I want to do something to the SCrew I'm gonna check with you first.

FedExPilot, great "How to photo's". They convinced me to install some component speakers in my SuperCrew. Now that I have the door panels off there doesn't appear to be enough room behind the door panel to mount the tweeters in front of the door handles. I got a pair of Infinity Kappa 50.2cs and to flust mount the tweeters it needs 1 3/16 clearance. How did you get yours mounted?

MN-Trap;
The Fosgate tweeter is approx 1 inch deep, but it fits into a tweeter mounting bracket which would bring the total depth to approx 1-1/2 (?). In the location I selected (see below) there appeared to be plenty of room. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the tweeter install. Sorry ...

As I posted above ....
"Wanted to install the tweeters higher in the door, in what I believe is called the "sail" panel. But, the surface isn't flat (fixable) and there is a structural, support ridge on the backside (tougher problem - - didn't want to chance losing necessary ridgidity).
I used a hole saw from the backside of the panel, being VERY careful as the teeth started to penetrate the last layer of vinyl trim. No problems as long as you're careful."
I also did a quick search in the speaker forum under "component speakers". Others have mounted thir tweeters in this location... see below. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Question

MN-Trap:
Just pulled my tweeter out of the mounting bracket. Without tearing everything apart, it appears as though the mounting depth is approx one inch. Looking at Crutchfields site, your Infinity's are larger than the Fosgates. As you said in your post - - it may be tight. I know some members have mounted their components in the kick panels...that may be an option. Another would be to find a door location that has an access hole (behind it) in the metal. And lastly, you could cut a hole (with a hole saw) in the metal. Your speakers are first rate...I'm sure they'll sound terrific. Best of luck...

FedExPilot - Well I finally got those tweeters installed. After I drilled the hole I found out they were 1/8 inch to deep. But after a couple of days without the door panels installed on my SCrew I finally figured out how to do it. Since the panel in front of the door handle is actually 2 pieces sandwiched togeher with about a 3/8" space between them. Starting from the back, I cut a 2.5" hole with a hole saw through the 1st layer. This allows enough room to put the retaining screw on the speaker. I then cut the second plastic layer with the correct size for the speaker to fit. Prior to mounting the speaker I put a 3/16" black rubber "o-ring" around the speaker. Worked great and looks like it belongs.
It took me 3 days to figure out the first door and 1 1/2 hours to do the second door. I also put in an 2000 Expedition console with the help of your instructions.
Thanks, I don't know if I would have tried it without them. I'll post some pictures of my SCrew in the next month.

Mn-Trap;
I was beginning to worry about your install. VERY happy to hear that you worked things out. I'm sure other members will run into similar problems with high-end components, as manufacturers improve/ enlarge the tweeters. Your solution was very creative/ innovative. Now for the important question: How does it sound ????
Again, nice job and looking forward to some pictures.....

FedExPilot - Well I think the extra work was worth it. CD's sound really great. I can run them from my changer or play a single from the HU. Makes it nice when I don't want to pull the cartridge just to play a single. I spent the morning installing my Valentine One Radar detector. I mounted it on the overhead console with the concealed display above the steering column.
I looked at the wiring pictures from the console tread but, they were wrong for my console. The switched hot wire was the white w/blue tracer and Black was ground. Now that I have it all back together tomorrow I'm going over to one of our lakes and shoot a couple of rolls of film of my SCrew.

MN-Trap;
Looking forward to seeing the results of all your hard work - - I'm sure it's terrific !!!
I spent the morning tweaking my amp/ sub/ and speakers - - they sure sound good playing Cd's with lot's of low end - - even my kids are impressed. The components were a big improvement, but the sub really compliments the system.
A little off thread, but:
How long have you had your Valentine radar detector? Like most folks, I've read reviews in Car and Driver which always seem to list the Valentine waaaayyyy out in front of the competition. What has been your experience? Is it worth the premium price?

FedExPilot -
I read about the Valentine One, three or four years ago on a flight to the east coast. So last week I went searching the web of a "remote" type radar detector and up popped the Valentine site. I like the remote\concealed display so I ordered it. I took it out for a test drive today and can't believe how accurate it is. I passed a radar trap and it told me exactly were he was located. In front, then to the side, then behind me. I expect I'll really find out how well it works next month when I travel to Linn Creek, Mo.
