Adamski,

Probably a bit late now but I proved that all the papers signed doesn't mean a lot if they play games. I bought a truck on a Saturday, signed all papers, financed it, and took it home. I had looked at several trucks on a large lot and it started raining. We got out of the rain and worked inside. I was tired and it was at the end of a long day. I didn't notice that the salesman started at an inflated number as it was very similar to the cost of another truck I had looked at. When I got home and looked at the factory sticker I realized what had happened. Monday morning I showed up at the dealership with over a hundred miles on the truck since it was an out of town dealership, keys in hand, and a ride home. There is no cooling off period in my state for new cars however when I stood my ground and insisted that they had played games with the paperwork I renegotiated the sales price. I was told I couldn't do that but their only other option was to store the truck and sue me for the sales price because I was renegotiating or leaving the truck there with two sets of keys on the salesman's desk. I insisted that the amount that had been deducted from the inflated price be deducted from the factory sticker. I bought that truck well below dealer invoice.

SuperCrews are a hot property down here and I didn't do nearly so well on it. After walking out of three dealerships and getting bids from a half-dozen more I had to pay $500 over invoice on an order. Some comfort that with the price increases that has become $188 over.

I paid:
$1250 for a Ford Premium ESP 60mo/100k miles
on my son's 98 Mustang. $50 deduct

$1135 for Premium ESP 60/75K for my '97 F150.
$50deduct.

$1000 for Premium ESP on 60/60k for son's '96 probe. $50 deduct

Never buy one for my bride's car cause she never keeps it past original warranty time.

This week had my son's Probe in for tranny leak and other tranny problem. While there we added several small things to the list since the deductible is per trip, not per item. What would have been over $700 cost us $50. ESP even covers the rent car we needed.
There are cheaper after market policies but you can't get repairs just anywhere. Also, some have very high deductibles.

Like Aslan, I have great faith in Ford. We have had 13 in our family including the '65 Mustang we restored for my son's first car.
We take real good care of them but some things are out of your control. We take good care of our bodies but would not go without health insurance which insures us against a human version of a mechanical breakdown. I drive my trucks a long time. Last Christmas I traded in my '83 F150 for my '97. Having the ESP works for me.

First post. We just picked
up our Screw on 9-6-00. We
went with the 5yr75K ESP
from ford. The cost $735.
They gave us free oil changes for the whole 5yrs as a bonus.
We were going to change our
mind and stick with the 3/36
but this is our first Ford.
I think we got a great deal
on the truck and after reading this post, we got
a deal on the ESP.

ACAPILOT:

Great deal!

How do you go about redeeming the free oil changes? Coupons? Your name in the database at that dealership?

I was wondering if this was some part of a package. In othe words, was he using this deal to rope into the truck or was this presented AFTER you were ready to sign the papers?

What is your deductible?

I've got the premium Ford ESP. I probably paid too much because I had yet to visit this site... you could call it 20/20 hind-site.

Anyhu, the benefits are:
1.) Warranty is transferrable, making the vehicle much easier to sell.

2.) The free rental is nice, I've already had Ford reimburse me for about 6 days of rental.

3.) This might just be my impression, but there don't seem to be any delays getting my truck back. Perhaps the dealer is aware that it's in their best interest to get the repairs done asap.

4.) I'm less prone to leaving something broken, when I know I can just take it in and drive out with a free rental.

5.) Because it's through Ford, there's no extra paperwork required, and certification of the repair can be done right at the dealership.

I don't think so. If Ford thought you would save money with an extended warranty, they wouldn't sell you one.
They might be a good deal on unreliable vehicles, but then why would you buy smething you thought was unreliable?

That is the case with all insurance. You bet you're going to need it and the company is betting you won't. Health inusrance for my family costs me almost $4000 a year. There is no way we would ever spend anywhere close to $4000 a year in medical bills.... until.... one accident, one major illness... You can spend that much in the emergency room in an hour or two. It's all a gample. Just like Vegas, the house always wins, but in my case, I can't afford to take the risk. I have saved $700 so far in the first year of my son's ESP and that was one trip to the shop with tranny problems. He's in college and I can't afford big car bills and don't want to risk "letting things go" with him driving to school three hours away.

Asian,
Its in the computer at the service desk. The oil change is only good from Portsmouth Ford of NH. The deductable is only $50.00 after the 3/36 is up. My wife and I almost called Ford back to cancel the ESP from the dealer, we thought we paid to much. Thank god for the website.
I asked for the ESP after we closed the deal, as an add on to the truck. We got what seems to be a great deal on the truck anyway. We almost ordered one, in the long run an ordered one with two less opitions was the same price as the one on the lot. We paid $150 over the Edmunds invoice price. This is the largest Ford dealer on the East Coast, and my first, but not last time going thier.
We love this truck. Almost
went with the Toyota but way over priced and less room.

If anyone whats a great, easy car/truck buying exp. this is the dealership I would buy from. Portsmouth Ford NH.

Can anyone buy the ESP from any dealer? I would assume so.

What I would really like to know is if my dealership won't budge, could I call
this dealership in NH (although I live in Texas) and buy the ESP?

I suppose any Ford dealer would have to honor it regardless of where I purchased
it.

No big deal but my alias is ASLAN not ASIAN.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the posts. Especially CAPILOT who's numbers I used to get mine about $275 lower then what I was originally quoted.

Question

Anyone used the 1-Source warranty service from edmunds.com? The quotes are cheaper, but maybe the service is too.

Kenster,

You said:

And You originally said:

To me it looks like you spent $1300 (1250+50 deductable) so you could "save" $700. If your sons car has under 36K (it is a 98) you have saved nothing. You've spent $1250 for nothing. Either way you are in the hole at least $500. Maybe you'll make it up maybe you will not.

The experts will tell you that ESP is a scam. You are better off banking the $1200 at the time of purchase and you'll be able to pay off all your own repairs.

I had a 92 Grand Am with the 5 yr 75K warr. GM paid over 10,000 in repairs for that car, after the factory warr. had run out. When I got my truck, I bought the 5 yr 75K warr w/ $50 deduct, rent car, etc. I paid $575 from Gene Messer Ford in Lubbock, TX.
