Post Sloppy fit on Class III receiver

What a sloppy fit on the Class III receiver. I had to buy a new shank (or hitch bar) for my weight distributing hitch. My '92 Club Wagon was 8" lower so a new shank was needed. Boy, what a sloppy fit when I slid it into the new factory Class III receiver on the SCrew. The new hitch sits on the end of a longer and deeper shank. I bet I have about 1/2" or more travel in the end of the hitch if I wobble it. My old bar does the same thing so it isn't the new shank.

My old receiver on my Club Wagon was an aftermarket one by Draw-Tite. A nice receiver. When I slid the shank into it there was no play at all. I mean, it was tight. This new one s**ks.

Is this a problem with anyone else? Or do all the new receivers have this sloppy fit?

I just got back this weekend using my SCrew to pull my loaded flatbed. While I was towing my trailer, I was thinking how nice it was NOT to feel and hear the slack in the receiver.

In my Chevrolet it alway felt and sounded like someone was bumping me.

I don't know why you have slack, as this is the same ball and shank as I was using in my Chevy and it seems better for me now with my SCrew.

It could be that Ford has several suppliers of hitches.

No problem here either. Towed many times this summer and no problems with the fit. Ask your dealer about a new one.

Thumbs down

Yes, I have the same issue. I even wrenched on all the mounting bolts thinking the entire hitch was loose.I agree with you. Terrible fit. They do sell some type of cushioner through aftermarket mags. They seemed to be expensive, though. I was thinking of using some sort of teflon to take up the slack. Just an idea.

My dealer told me to ask at a business that sells hitches and see what they say.

I'll go to the place I bought my travel trailer from. If they say that it is unacceptable I'll see if I can get something in writing. If they say it is OK, I'll probably buy a new receiver next summer. This weekend will be the only time I'll tow the trailer this year before the snow flies. Then I'll have several months to save for a new receiver. Boy, after the SCrew and the new ARE-Z cap ($1700) I need some time to recuperate from the empty wallet syndrome.
