Exclamation Anyone have this problem?

My rain channels, the really deep ones on the sides, are bubling and blistering off the paint. Anyone else notice this? Go look and tell me what you find.

I have already had the unfortunate experience of taking my SCrew to the body shop. Long story short - I had it at the muffler shop to check out the exhaust. When the dumb**s put it on the lift and lifted it, he lifted it too high and ran the top of my truck into the garage door. Crushed the top on the right rear corner. I had only had my pickup for a week and had less than 500 miles on it. Didn't take me long to get hotter than a freshly fornicated feline!

Anyway...the bodyman at the local ford shop told me that the rubberized filler that is in that channel is made by 3M and tends to crack and seperate. Ford is having it out with 3M about the whole situation. He said it does seperate sometimes and that there is really nothing that can be done about it (ie can't be repaired easily). He said it is nothing to worry about, because there is a coat of clearcoat over it (unless it cracks, too) and it will not leak. I was lucky because the body damage on my pickup did not get into the channel and he will not need to jack with it.

I will still need to have my new truck in the shop for about 5 days for body repair. Not a good thing, but the muffler shop will be billed direct for the repair (we've already worked that out). And I ended up going elsewhere to have my dual exhaust installed. Just came down to a matter of trust.

Angry

unfortunately, almost the entire channel is cracked and looks like there is rust coming from the crack, or this filling has the same color...

Question

Soul Giver,

What does your dealer say? That problem is covered by your warranty and the dealership should correct the defect. Regardless if anyone else has had this problem Ford should take care of it.

Question

Soulgiver,
Do you have pictures of this problem. I'm trying to create a database of all the problems that people have reported but visual is always better than words.
Thanx.
BTW - It might also be handy for your own records.

Super(crew)Freak -

Just to set the record straight - 3M does NOT make that filler - not our business.

Actually, I had something similar on mine, but just the very rear end of that channel on the passenger side. It looked like somebody in assembly had a little too much of a sealer, wiped it with a thumb, and smeared in in that channel before the paint bake. The result was a painted gummy mass that I could pull back and expose bare sheet metal. Being 6'5", I was about the only one to see it - and I had to get into the bed to really examine.

Bottom line, dealer apologized and sent it to the body shop to fix before I accepted the truck. Fix doesn't look too bad - but I'm glad it's up to high for anybody to really notice.
